Notre foi : un acier trempé

Quand tu passeras par les eaux, je serai avec toi… quand tu marcheras dans le feu, tu ne seras pas brûlé, et la flamme ne te consumera pas. Ésaïe 43. 2

La trempe de l’acier le rend plus résistant. Le forgeron emploie pour cela le feu et l’eau. Par analogie, l’épreuve pour le croyant peut prendre plusieurs formes, mais toutes concourent à forger sa foi.

– L’épreuve nous apprend la patience. Celle-ci se trouve testée par tout obstacle sur notre route. Notre volonté est alors mise de côté et celle de Dieu acceptée comme étant bonne (Romains 12. 2).

– L’épreuve nous apprend le courage. Elle permet d’expérimenter la grâce de Dieu, qui soutient quand il faut aborder la souffrance. Elle nous forme pour que nous restions debout jusqu’à la fin, comme de bons soldats de Jésus Christ.

– L’épreuve traversée avec Jésus nous révèle sa grâce vivante qui nous accompagne. Elle montre ce qu’une vie avec Christ peut accomplir, même dans la souffrance. Elle est la démonstration que Christ suffit à toutes les situations.

– L’épreuve nous rend capables d’aider les autres par les leçons apprises au cours de nos expériences personnelles. Le Seigneur nous prépare et nous utilise à notre tour pour consoler, fortifier et encourager notre prochain.

“Béni soit le Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, le Père des miséricordes et le Dieu de toute consolation, qui nous console à l’égard de toute notre affliction, afin que nous soyons capables de consoler ceux qui sont dans quelque affliction que ce soit” (2 Corinthiens 1. 3, 4).

– Enfin l’épreuve nous rapproche de Christ et nous apprend à mieux le connaître.

Revelation and Reassurance

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6  

Jesus, some days and weeks and years feel overwhelming. Thank You for Your peace, which guards me yesterday, today, and forever.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

Baby-gender reveals in 2019 were dramatic. In July, a video showed a car emitting blue smoke to indicate, “It’s a boy!” In September, a crop-duster plane in Texas dumped hundreds of gallons of pink water to announce, “It’s a girl!” There was another “reveal,” though, that uncovered significant things about the world these children will grow up in. At the conclusion of 2019, YouVersion revealed that the most shared, highlighted, and bookmarked verse of the year on its online and mobile Bible app was Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

That’s quite the revelation. People are anxious about many things these days—from the needs of our sons and daughters, to the myriad ways family and friends are divided, to natural catastrophes and wars. But in the middle of all these worries, the good news is that many people cling to a verse that says, “Do not be anxious about anything.” Furthermore, those same people encourage others as well as themselves to present every request to God “in every situation.” The mindset that doesn’t ignore but faces life’s anxieties is one of “thanksgiving.”

The verse that didn’t make “verse of the year” but follows it is—“And the peace of God . . . will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (v. 7). That’s quite the reassurance!
