Quelle est mon excuse ?

Si, de ta bouche, tu reconnais Jésus comme Seigneur, et si tu crois dans ton coeur que Dieu l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts, tu seras sauvé. Romains 10. 9

Sur un stand de marché, je tends un évangile à un passant, avec ces mots : – C’est gratuit !

- Je ne veux pas croire en Jésus Christ parce que j’ai été trompé et volé par quelqu’un qui se disait chrétien, répond-il vivement.

- Est-ce vraiment la seule raison ?

- Oui.

- Vous permettez que je l’écrive sur mon carnet de bord ?

- Bien sûr, je vous l’écris moi-même !
J’arrache alors la feuille, et je la lui remets en disant :

- Gardez ce petit billet, vous le donnerez à Dieu quand vous comparaîtrez devant lui, le jour du jugement.
À peine au bout de l’allée, il revient, papier en main :

- Mon excuse n’est pas valable… Ce n’est qu’une parade.

Une conversation sérieuse s’ensuit, appuyée sur des textes de la Bible. Cet homme trouvera un peu plus tard la paix avec Dieu. Jésus a dit : “Celui qui entend ma parole, et qui croit celui qui m’a envoyé, a la vie éternelle et ne vient pas en jugement ; mais il est passé de la mort à la vie” (Jean 5. 24).

D’autres diront : “La religion, ce n’est pas pour moi… j’en ai trop vu”, ou : “Mes parents se disaient chrétiens, mais quelle hypocrisie !”

Vous avez peut-être aussi votre petit papier avec tant d’exemples de chrétiens qui vous ont choqué par leur comportement totalement opposé à celui du Christ. S’ils vous ont dégoûté du christianisme, n’en restez pas là. Approchez-vous de Jésus Christ, seul témoin fidèle et véritable de l’amour divin. Amour tel, qu’il a donné sa vie sur la croix pour tous ceux qui croient en lui. Venez à Jésus, le seul médiateur entre Dieu et les hommes. Lui, ne vous décevra jamais.

The Way of Faith

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me.” Judges 7:2

God, when life gets challenging, help me learn to rely more and more on Your mighty power and grace.

Today's Scripture & Insight : Judges 7:1–8, 22

In a 2017 World Cup qualifying match that pitted the US against Trinidad and Tobago, the Soca Warriors shocked the world when they beat the US men’s national team, a team ranked considerably higher. The upset eliminated the US team from the 2018 World Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago’s victory was so unexpected in part because the United States’ population and resources dwarfed those of the small Caribbean nation. But those seemingly insurmountable advantages weren’t enough to defeat the passionate Soca Warriors.

The story of Gideon and the Midianites features a similar upset, one between a small group of fighters and a large army. The Israelite army actually had more than thirty-thousand fighters, but the Lord whittled the army down to just three hundred warriors so the nation would learn that their success was dependent on God—not the size of their army, the amount of money in their treasury, or the skill of their leaders (Judges 7:1–8).

It can be tempting to put our trust and confidence in things we can see or measure, but that’s not the way of faith. Though it’s often difficult, when we’re willing to depend on God, to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10), we can go into situations with courage and confidence, even when we feel overwhelmed and unqualified. His presence and power can do amazing things in and through us.
