Réconciliés avec le Dieu de paix

Si, étant ennemis, nous avons été réconciliés avec Dieu par la mort de son Fils, à plus forte raison, ayant été réconciliés, serons-nous sauvés par sa vie ! Romains 5. 10

Deux amis se disputent. Leur relation, auparavant bonne, devient tendue, au bord de la rupture. Ils cessent de se parler, la communication est devenue trop difficile. Ces amis deviennent petit à petit des inconnus l’un pour l’autre. Un tel dénouement ne peut être évité que par la réconciliation. L’amitié et l’harmonie sont alors rétablies.

Mais Dieu a-t-il besoin de se réconcilier avec nous, ou est-ce nous-mêmes qui avons besoin d’être réconciliés avec lui ? N’est-ce pas nous qui sommes ennemis de Dieu ? (voir verset du jour).

En effet, notre relation avec Dieu a été brisée par le mal que nous faisons, chacun, entraînés par le mensonge, l’orgueil, l’égoïsme, etc.

Pourtant c’est Dieu qui a pris l’initiative de la réconciliation avec ses créatures, même ennemies. Envoyé par Dieu, Jésus Christ a pris sur lui tous nos péchés. Il a “fait la paix par le sang de sa croix” (Colossiens 1. 20) pour que nous puissions être en paix avec Dieu. C’est à ce prix qu’elle a été fondée, pour toujours et pour tous ceux qui croient.

La réconciliation est une vérité merveilleuse. Lorsque nous devenons chrétiens, tout change dans notre relation avec Dieu. Nous étions ses ennemis, nous sommes devenus ses amis. Nous étions condamnés à cause de nos péchés, maintenant nous sommes pardonnés. Nous étions en guerre contre Dieu, maintenant nous avons une paix “qui surpasse toute intelligence” (Philippiens 4. 7).

The Lost Envelope

Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20

What can you do this week that has eternal implications? How can you better use your earthly treasures as investments for heaven’s good?

We were on the way home from a visit with family in another state when I found it. I was pumping gas when I noticed a dirty, bulky envelope on the ground. I grabbed it, dirt and all, and looked inside. To my surprise, it contained one hundred dollars.

One hundred dollars that someone had lost and who at that very moment was possibly frantically searching to find. I gave our phone number to the attendants at the gas station in case anyone came back looking for it. But no one ever called.

Someone had that money and lost it. Earthly treasure is often like that. It can be lost, stolen, or even squandered. It can be lost in bad investments or even in a monetary market over which we have no control. But the heavenly treasure we have in Jesus—a restored relationship with God and the promise of eternal life—isn’t like that. We can’t lose it at a gas station or anywhere else.

That’s why Christ told us to store up “treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:20). We do that when we become “rich in good deeds” (1 Timothy 6:18) or “rich in faith” (James 2:5)—lovingly helping others and sharing Jesus with them. As God leads and empowers us, may we store up eternal treasure even as we anticipate our eternal future with Him.
