L'arc-en-ciel

L'arc apparaîtra dans la nuée et je me souviendrai de mon alliance… et les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair. Genèse 9. 14, 15

Après un orage, le retour à un temps calme se traduit parfois par les magnifiques couleurs de l'arc-en-ciel. La physique nous apprend qu'il se produit par la rencontre entre les gouttes d'eau et les rayons du soleil: la lumière blanche est décomposée selon toute la gamme de couleurs du spectre chromatique.

La Bible nous dit que Dieu a établi l'arc-en-ciel après avoir envoyé le déluge sur la terre et sauvé Noé et les siens du jugement. Il donne ce signe pour montrer qu'il se souvient de toutes les créatures vivantes sur la terre. Malgré la méchanceté de l'homme, il ne souhaite pas sa destruction. Chacun de nous est fautif devant Dieu, mais tous peuvent venir au Sauveur qu'il nous a donné, Jésus Christ.

L'arc-en-ciel nous parle aussi de Jésus, le Fils de Dieu venu sur la terre comme la lumière du ciel. “Dieu est lumière” (1 Jean 1. 5) et il a voulu se révéler aux hommes. Alors, comme l'arc-en-ciel décompose la lumière, Jésus nous a dévoilé les unes après les autres les gloires variées de Dieu: son exigence de vérité qui met en évidence tout ce que l'homme voudrait laisser caché au fond de son cœur; sa justice qui ne supporte pas le péché; sa bonté qui cherche et attire le pécheur; sa patience qui attend que tous se repentent…

Et après avoir donné sa vie pour expier nos péchés, Jésus est maintenant dans le ciel, assis à la droite de Dieu le Père, garant de notre salut éternel.

Too Good Not to Share

[John] came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. John 1:7

The gospel is too good not to share.

During court proceedings, witnesses are more than onlookers or spectators. They are active participants who help determine the outcome of a case. The same is true of our witness for Christ. We are to be active participants in a matter of absolute importance—the truth of Jesus’s death and resurrection.

When John the Baptist came to tell people about Jesus, the light of the world, he did so by declaring his knowledge of Jesus. And John the disciple, who recorded the events, testified of his experience with Jesus: “We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). The apostle Paul would elaborate on this idea as he told young Timothy, “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Tim. 2:2).

We can be active witnesses, telling others about the reality of Jesus in our lives.

All Christians have been summoned before the courtroom of the world. The Bible says we are not mere spectators but active participants. We testify to the truth about Jesus’s death and resurrection. John the Baptist was the voice of one calling in the desert. Our voices can be heard in our workplace, neighborhood, church, and among our family and friends. We can be active witnesses, telling them about the reality of Jesus in our lives.
