Vie chrétienne, triste vie de renoncement?

Si quelqu'un est en Christ, c'est une nouvelle création: les choses vieilles sont passées; voici, toutes choses sont faites nouvelles. 2 Corinthiens 5. 17

Ouvre mes yeux, et je verrai les merveilles qui sont dans ta loi. Psaume 119. 18

Cette idée assez répandue a-t-elle quelque explication? En effet, de nombreuses personnes voudraient accommoder leur christianisme à une vie où l'on ne se refuse rien, tout en affichant une pratique religieuse qui reste fade et sans joie. D'autres, n'ayant pas vraiment compris l'évangile, vivent dans la crainte, la peur d'un Dieu vengeur. En réalité ils ne le connaissent pas et voudraient l'apaiser par des pratiques alliant la dévotion à toutes sortes de privations. Qui voudrait d'un tel christianisme, qui n'en est qu'une triste parodie?

C'est vrai que le chrétien, celui qui a reçu Jésus Christ dans son cœur, renonce à ce qui est mal, à ce qui n'est que “vanité et poursuite du vent”, aux choses attractives que le monde présente sous un jour agréable mais qui nous détruisent, corps, âme, et famille… Est-il triste? Bien au contraire. Le vrai chrétien a confiance en son Dieu. Il connaît son amour. Ce que Dieu lui recommande dans la Bible est toujours pour son bien. Il est heureux d'avoir ces repères au milieu de ce qu'offre un monde déboussolé.

Écoutez ce témoignage: “Oui, quand je suis devenu chrétien, j'ai abandonné beaucoup de choses… mais j'en ai reçu d'autres:

Chargé par une conscience qui me tourmentait et un cœur mal à l'aise, j'ai reçu le pardon de Dieu. Il m'a fait don de sa paix. J'ai perdu ma dépendance à l'alcool. Je n'ai plus peur de l'avenir.

Convertissez-vous et devenez chrétien. Ce que j'ai perdu a été pour moi un gain inestimable.”

Enjoy the View

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars. Psalm 148:3

Join God in taking delight in all that He has made.

Sunsets. People tend to stop what they are doing to watch them . . . snap pictures of them . . . enjoy the beautiful view.

My wife and I watched the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico recently. A crowd of people surrounded us, mostly strangers who had gathered at the beach to watch this nightly phenomenon. At the moment the sun fully slipped below the horizon, the crowd broke out with applause.
 

You and what You have made are awesome, Lord!

Why do people respond like that? The book of Psalms offers a clue. The psalmist wrote of God ordering the sun to praise its Creator (Ps. 148:3). And wherever the rays of the sun shine across the earth, people are moved to praise along with them.

The beauty that comes to us through nature speaks to our souls like few things do. It not only has the capacity to stop us in our tracks and captivate our attention, it also has the power to turn our focus to the Maker of beauty itself.

The wonder of God’s vast creation can cause us to pause and remember what’s truly important. Ultimately, it reminds us that there is a Creator behind the stunning entrance and exit of the day, One who so loved the world He made that He entered it in order to redeem and restore it.

I enjoy the world You have created with its variety and color. You and what You have made are awesome, Lord!
