Une relation avec Jésus

Voici, je me tiens à la porte et je frappe: si quelqu'un entend ma voix et qu'il ouvre la porte, j'entrerai chez lui et je souperai avec lui, et lui avec moi. Apocalypse 3. 20

(Jésus dit:) Moi je suis avec vous tous les jours, jusqu'à l'achèvement du siècle. Matthieu 28. 20

“Je m'appelle Farouk et je suis Irakien. Diplômé universitaire en géologie en 1970, je travaillais, j'avais tout ce qu'il me fallait, mais je ne connaissais pas la paix en moi, pourtant j'allais à l'église, et je possédais une Bible. “Cela ne suffit pas”, me dit une fois mon père que je trouvais heureux et paisible. Il était, disait-il, en relation avec Jésus. Un jour, une personne est venue chez moi. Je lui ai parlé de mon manque de paix. “Tu as besoin de Jésus”, m'a-t-elle répondu. Puis elle m'a aidé à prier: “Pardon Jésus, je t'ouvre mon cœur, viens dans mon cœur, pardon pour mes péchés. Je t'accepte comme mon Sauveur, mon Roi”. À partir de ce moment, la peur a disparu et elle n'est jamais revenue. Depuis, Jésus me parle par la Bible et je l'écoute (Jean 10. 27).

Dans les années 80 ce fut la guerre entre l'Irak et l'Iran. Le Seigneur Jésus m'a alors fait comprendre que je devais quitter mon emploi pour être pleinement à son service. J'ai répondu: “Seigneur, je n'ai pas de formation, et comment je vais vivre?” Le Seigneur m'a alors rappelé l'histoire de Moïse et du peuple que Dieu a conduit par le désert, car sa bonté demeure à toujours (Psaume 136. 16). J'ai compris que je ne devais pas avoir peur, que Dieu s'occuperait de moi. Avec son secours, j'enseigne la foi, l'amour inconditionnel de Dieu exprimé à la croix par Jésus, mort pour des pécheurs comme moi, et comme chacun de nous. J'annonce qu'il nous faut avoir chacun une relation personnelle avec Jésus Christ, le Sauveur.”

Sweet Scent

We are the aroma of Christ to others.

Author Rita Snowden tells a delightful story about visiting a small village in Dover, England. Sitting outside a café one afternoon enjoying a cup of tea, she became aware of a beautiful scent. Rita asked a waiter where it was coming from, and was told it was the people she could see passing by. Most of the villagers were employed at a nearby perfume factory. As they walked home, they carried the fragrance that permeated their clothes out into the street.

What a beautiful image of the Christian life! As the apostle Paul says, we are the aroma of Christ, spreading His fragrance everywhere (2 Cor. 2:15). Paul uses the image of a king returning from battle, his soldiers and captives in tow, wafting the smell of celebratory incense in the air, declaring the king’s greatness (v. 14).

Lord Jesus, make us carriers and communicators of Your beauty.

We spread the aroma of Christ in two ways. First, through our words: telling others about the One who is beautiful. Second, through our lives: doing deeds of Christlike sacrifice (Eph. 5:1–2). While not everyone will appreciate the divine fragrance we share, it will bring life to many.

Rita Snowden caught a scent and was driven to seek its source. As we follow Jesus we too become permeated with His fragrance, and we carry His aroma into the streets through our words and deeds.

Lord Jesus, make us carriers and communicators of Your beauty to the people in our homes, offices, and neighborhoods.
