Face à la mort

[Jésus] délivre tous ceux qui, par la crainte de la mort, étaient, pendant toute leur vie, tenus en esclavage. Hébreux 2. 15

Lorsqu'un homme se trouve face à la mort, bien souvent le masque tombe. Plus d'un a dû reconnaître qu'il avait construit sa vie sur un fondement branlant et avait poursuivi une illusion. Voici quelques exemples:

– “Je vais faire un saut effroyable dans les ténèbres”.

– “Jusqu'à cet instant je pensais qu'il n'y avait ni Dieu ni enfer. Maintenant je sais et je sens que les deux existent. Par la juste sentence du Tout-Puissant, je vais au-devant de la perdition.”

– “Au cours de ma vie, je me suis assuré contre tout, sauf contre la mort. Et maintenant, je dois mourir sans y être aucunement préparé.”

Quel contraste avec les dernières paroles de personnes qui avaient reconnu Jésus Christ comme leur Sauveur, et qui l'aimaient.

Dwight L. Moody a dit: “C'est merveilleux! La terre s'efface, le ciel s'ouvre. Dieu m'appelle!”

David Brewster, l'inventeur du kaléidoscope, a déclaré: “Je vois Jésus, je le vois tel qu'il est. Il y a plusieurs années déjà que je possède cette clarté. Oh! comme c'est lumineux! Je me sens sûr et heureux.”

Tous ceux qui, par la foi au Seigneur Jésus, ont mis leur vie en ordre avec Dieu, n'ont à craindre ni la mort, ni l'éternité. Ils ont été délivrés du jugement de Dieu. Ils connaissent son amour, et “il n'y a pas de crainte dans l'amour, mais l'amour parfait chasse la crainte” (1 Jean 4. 18).

Her Father’s Zoo

The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. Proverbs 12:10

Father in heaven, when we think about the wonder and diversity of Your animal kingdom, please help us not only to worship You, but to care for what You’ve entrusted to us.

June Williams was only 4 when her father bought 7 acres of land to build a zoo without bars or cages. Growing up she remembers how creative her father was in trying to help wild animals feel free in confinement. Today Chester Zoo is one of England’s most popular wildlife attractions. Home to 11,000 animals on 110 acres of land, the zoo reflects her father’s concern for animal welfare, education, and conservation.

Solomon had a similar interest in all creatures great and small. In addition to studying the wildlife of the Middle East, he imported exotic animals like apes and monkeys from far-off lands (1 Kings 10:22). But one of his proverbs shows us that Solomon’s knowledge of nature went beyond intellectual curiosity. When he expressed the spiritual implications of how we treat our animals, he mirrored something of the heart of our Creator: “The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel” (Prov. 12:10).

The beauty of God's creation should inspire us to take better care of what He has entrusted to us.

With God-given wisdom, Solomon saw that our relationship to our Creator affects not only how we treat people but also how much thoughtful consideration we give to the creatures in our care.
