Mettre la Bible à l’épreuve

(Jésus a dit :) Si quelqu’un veut faire la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé, il connaîtra, au sujet de cette doctrine, si elle vient de Dieu, ou si je parle de par moi-même. Jean 7. 17
 

Le Dr. H. Kelly (1858-1943), professeur aux États-Unis, disait : “Je n’ai jamais rencontré un homme qui connaisse vraiment la Bible et qui l’ait rejetée. La difficulté a toujours été une réticence à la mettre honnêtement à l’épreuve.” Jésus l’a dit : “Vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie” (Jean 5. 40). Mais comment mettre la Bible à l’épreuve, sinon en l’appliquant à notre propre vie et en nous soumettant de cœur à ce qu’elle nous dit ? C’est ce qu’a fait le Dr. Kelly :

“Je crois que la Bible est la Parole de Dieu, inspirée dans un sens totalement différent des livres humains… J’ai cette assurance parce que, en en faisant ma nourriture spirituelle jour après jour, je découvre dans ma propre vie… une transformation : les tendances humaines sont corrigées, les affections purifiées, j’apprends à connaître la justice de Dieu… La Bible est véritablement une nourriture de l’esprit, comme le pain est celle du corps…

Elle me révèle, comme aucun autre livre, le diagnostic précis de ma condition spirituelle. Elle me montre clairement ce que je suis par nature : perdu dans le péché et étranger à la vie qui est en Dieu. Je trouve en elle, de la Genèse à l’Apocalypse, une révélation harmonieuse et merveilleuse du caractère de Dieu, bien éloigné de tout ce que nous pourrions imaginer. Elle révèle aussi une tendresse et une proximité de Dieu en Christ qui satisfait les désirs du cœur… Le Dieu infini, le Créateur du monde, a pris sur Lui notre propre nature, de sorte qu’il a pu, dans son amour infini, être semblable à nous pour nous racheter.”

When Prayer Shakes the Earth

Dr. Gary Greenberg has magnified and photographed sand from beaches around the world, often revealing surprising, vibrant splashes of color from the minerals, shell, and coral fragments contained within.

He’s discovered there’s more to sand than meets the eye. In arenology (the study of sand), the microscopic analysis of sand’s mineral content can reveal much about erosion, shore currents, and their potential effects on coastlines. Even a little sand can yield information of great worth!

A single prayer, like a grain of sand, can be a weighty thing. Scripture indicates prayer’s powerful role in the coming of God’s kingdom. In Revelation 8, John sees an angel standing at the altar before His throne holding a golden censer containing “the prayers of all God’s people.” “Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake” (vv. 3, 5).

Immediately after the angel hurled the censer filled with fire and prayer, seven angels with seven trumpets “prepared to sound them” (v. 6), heralding this old earth’s last days and Christ’s return.

Sometimes we may not feel like our prayers add up to much, but God doesn’t miss one. He so values them that they somehow even play a role in the consummation of His kingdom. What may seem like the smallest prayer to us can have earth-shaking weight with Him!
