Le Saint Esprit dans le croyant

(Jésus a dit :) Le Consolateur, l’Esprit Saint, que le Père enverra en mon nom, lui, vous enseignera toutes choses et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit. Jean 14. 26

Quand… l’Esprit de vérité sera venu, il vous conduira dans toute la vérité. Jean 16. 13
 

Le Saint Esprit, promis par le Seigneur Jésus, est descendu sur la terre le jour de la Pentecôte (Actes 2).

Au fil du temps, Satan a réussi à obscurcir et à voiler la réalité de cette présence du Saint Esprit dans les croyants. Combien de chrétiens sont conscients que l’Esprit Saint n’est pas seulement une puissance ou une source d’énergie divine, mais vraiment une Personne divine ? Combien n’ont pas la certitude que cette Personne divine habite en eux ? Et pourtant la Parole de Dieu le déclare expressément. “Votre corps est le temple du Saint Esprit qui est en vous et que vous avez de Dieu” (1 Corinthiens 6. 19). “L’Esprit de Dieu habite en vous ; mais si quelqu’un n’a pas l’Esprit de Christ, il n’est pas de lui” (Romains 8. 9).

Si nous réalisions vraiment que Dieu le Saint Esprit habite en tout croyant (Éphésiens 1. 13 ; 2 Corinthiens 1. 22) et qu’il veut gérer et conduire notre vie selon ses pensées, celle-ci en serait transformée ! Si l’Esprit n’était qu’une puissance, agissant en moi, je pourrais faire des projets, et les accomplir en ayant partiellement recours à cette puissance. En revanche, si cette Personne divine habite en moi, je n’ai rien d’autre à faire que de me laisser employer par elle. Je ne suis plus celui qui agit, je suis un instrument utilisé par Dieu. Quel privilège d’être employé par le Dieu tout-puissant pour le servir et exécuter sa volonté !

The Kindness of Candor

The pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. Proverbs 27:9

Abba, Father, thank You for speaking truth to me through Scripture. Please help me to receive and give advice well by relying on You to lead me.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

“My dear friend, sometimes you sound holier than you really are.”

Those words were leveled with a direct gaze and gentle smile. Had they come from someone other than a close friend and mentor whose discernment I highly valued, my feelings might have been hurt. Instead, I winced and laughed at the same time, knowing that while his words “hit a nerve,” he was also right.

Sometimes when I talked about my faith, I used jargon that didn’t sound natural, which gave the impression that I wasn’t being sincere. My friend loved me and was trying to help me be more effective in sharing with others what I genuinely believed. Looking back, I see it as some of the best advice I ever received.

“Wounds from a friend can be trusted,” Solomon wisely wrote, “but an enemy multiplies kisses” (Proverbs 27:6). My friend’s insights demonstrated the truth of that counsel. I was grateful he cared enough to tell me something I needed to hear, even though he knew it might not be easy to accept. Sometimes when someone tells you only what they think you want to hear, it isn’t helpful, because it can keep you from growing and developing in vital ways.   

Candor can be kindness when measured out with genuine, humble love. May God give us the wisdom to receive it and impart it well, and so reflect His caring heart.
