Si vous voulez savoir… (3)

Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu’il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse pas, mais qu’il ait la vie éternelle. Jean 3. 16

Dieu est amour. En ceci a été manifesté l’amour de Dieu pour nous : c’est que Dieu a envoyé son Fils unique dans le monde, afin que nous vivions par lui. 1 Jean 4. 8, 9
 

La vie de Jésus montre l’amour de Dieu envers l’humanité révoltée, souffrant des conséquences du péché.

En effet, Jésus va de lieu en lieu en faisant du bien, mais il dit aussi la vérité, et les chefs religieux ne veulent plus de lui. Alors ils le capturent, l’amènent à Pilate, l’accusent injustement. Jésus se laisse faire. Les foules réclament à grands cris sa mort, et Pilate le livre à leur haine…

On se débarrasse ainsi du Fils de Dieu en le crucifiant entre deux malfaiteurs.

Pendant les trois premières heures de la crucifixion, on se moque de Jésus. On met même Dieu son Père au défi de le délivrer, “s’il tient à lui” (Matthieu 27. 43). Dieu a proclamé publiquement qu’il était son Fils bien-aimé (Luc 3. 22), mais maintenant il laisse dire…

Pendant les trois heures qui suivent, des ténèbres couvrent le pays. Jésus porte nos péchés, il les expie, il est “fait péché pour nous”, lui “le Saint et le Juste” (2 Corinthiens 5. 21 ; Actes 3. 14). Et Dieu l’abandonne, il ne répond pas à son cri (Matthieu 27. 46).

Jésus meurt, en disant : “C’est accompli” (Jean 19. 30). Il est mis dans un tombeau, mais Dieu le ressuscite trois jours après.

Désormais, Dieu peut pardonner et sauver tout pécheur qui croit en Jésus, mais à quel prix !

Si vous voulez savoir vraiment qui est Dieu, regardez la croix. Elle proclame la sainteté de Dieu face à votre péché, son amour pour vous, pécheur, et le prix auquel il vous a estimé – “Dieu est lumière… Dieu est amour” (1 Jean 1. 5 ; 4. 8).

Willing to Wait

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. James 5:7

Jesus, I’ll wait for You. Though the world is dark and filled with pain, suffering, injustice, and uncertainty, I’ll wait for You. Though I don’t know the day or the time, I’ll wait for You.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

Waiting can be a culprit in stealing our peace. According to computer scientist Ramesh Sitaraman, few things “inspire universal frustration and ire” in internet users as waiting for a sluggish web browser to load. His research says that we’re willing to wait an average of two seconds for an online video to load.

After five seconds, the abandonment rate is about twenty-five percent, and after ten seconds, half of the users desert their efforts. We’re certainly an impatient bunch!

James encouraged believers in Jesus to not abandon Him while they were waiting for His second coming. Christ’s return would motivate them to stand firm in the face of suffering and to love and honor one another (James 5:7–10). James used the example of the farmer to make his point. Like the farmer, who waited patiently for “autumn and spring rains” (v. 7) and for the land to yield its valuable crop, James encouraged believers to be patient under oppression until Jesus returned. And when He returned, He would right every wrong and bring shalom, peace.

Sometimes, we’re tempted to forsake Jesus while we wait for Him. But as we wait, let’s “keep watch” (Matthew 24:42), remain faithful (25:14–30), and live out His character and ways (Colossians 3:12).

Though we don’t know when Jesus will return, let’s wait patiently for Him, as long as it takes.
