Prions pour le Pakistan (3)

Mais moi (Jésus), je vous dis : Aimez vos ennemis, et priez pour ceux qui vous persécutent. Matthieu 5. 44

Une grande inondation a dévasté un village d’Asie du Sud-ouest, et un groupe d’étrangers est venu aider à tout reconstruire. Mais des guerriers de la tribu dirigée par leur chef Jalal les ont attaqués plusieurs fois en brûlant leurs tentes.

En plus de l’aide apportée, les étrangers racontaient des histoires sur les anciens prophètes de la Bible. Jalal était en colère, mais ce qui le surprenait le plus, c’est qu’ils ne ripostaient pas à ses attaques et montraient ainsi une force qu’il ne connaissait pas. Pendant des mois, Jalal les a observés à la jumelle depuis les montagnes. Finalement, une nuit il est descendu au village, et a entendu lui-même ces récits sur les prophètes… et aussi sur Jésus.

Un soir où il était revenu les écouter, il a pensé à tout le mal qu’il avait fait, à tous les gens qu’il avait frappés et tués. Huit mois plus tard, on l’invite à regarder un film qui parle de la vie d’Isa (Jésus) dans la langue de sa tribu. Ému aux larmes, il demande à ses hommes de mettre leurs armes dans un coin, par respect pour le film.

Quelques mois plus tard, à la fin d’une réunion, Jalal déclare : “Je vous ai frappés, j’ai tiré sur vous… Quelle est la punition, selon votre foi, pour tous les péchés que j’ai commis contre vous ?” On lui répond : “Aucune. Il n’y a pas de punition pour toi. Nous t’aimons”.

Six ans plus tard, en 2013, Jalal déclare : “Jésus est ma vie. C’est une ombre sous laquelle je vis et j’éprouve la paix. Il est Dieu. Mon corps tout entier lui appartient.”

God’s Embassy

When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Luke 14:13–14

Jesus, thank You for looking out for those in need. Help me to be more like You, that I would care for others, showing them Your love.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

Ludmilla, a widow aged eighty-two, has declared her home in the Czech Republic an “Embassy of the Kingdom of Heaven,” saying, “My home is an extension of Christ’s kingdom.” She welcomes strangers and friends who are hurting and in need with loving hospitality, sometimes providing food and a place to sleep—always with a compassionate and prayerful spirit. Relying on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to help her care for her visitors, she delights in the ways God answers their prayers.

Ludmilla serves Jesus through opening her home and heart, in contrast to the prominent religious leader at whose home Jesus ate one Sabbath. Jesus told this teacher of the law that he should welcome “the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind” to his home—and not those who could repay him (Luke 14:13).

While Jesus’ remarks imply that the Pharisee hosted Jesus out of pride (v. 12), Ludmilla, so many years later, invites people to her home so she can be “an instrument of God’s love and His wisdom.”

Serving others with humility is one way we can be “representatives of the kingdom of heaven,” as Ludmilla says. Whether or not we can provide a bed for strangers, we can put the needs of others before our own in different and creative ways. How will we extend God’s kingdom in our part of the world today?
