Parole vivante

Régénérés… par la vivante et permanente parole de Dieu. 1 Pierre 1. 23

Car la parole de Dieu est vivante et opérante, plus pénétrante qu’aucune épée à deux tranchants : elle atteint jusqu’à la division de l’âme et de l’esprit… ; et elle discerne les pensées et les intentions du cœur. Hébreux 4. 12
 

“Né dans une famille chrétienne, j’ai longtemps eu un rapport superficiel à la Bible. J’avais beaucoup de mal à me sentir concerné par ces textes écrits il y a plusieurs millénaires, dans un contexte très différent du mien.

Mais lorsque je me suis tourné vers le Christ, j’ai commencé à m’intéresser de plus près à la Bible. J’ai alors compris que cette dernière n’est pas un “livre”, mais plutôt une “bibliothèque”. Elle contient une soixantaine de livres distincts, écrits sur trois continents, dans trois langues différentes, sur une période d’environ 1500 ans et par plus de 40 auteurs.

En dépit de cela, j’ai été surpris de constater sa fluidité, son unité : la Bible forme un tout, du début à la fin. Les textes se répondent les uns aux autres. Paroles humaines inspirées par Dieu, donc paroles de Dieu, les Écritures sont devenues dans ma vie ma source d’énergie quotidienne, me permettant d’avancer. Elles m’éclairent sur mon rapport à Dieu, à mon prochain, et à ce monde. Si certains passages peuvent paraître obscurs ou difficiles à comprendre, j’ai appris que j’avais besoin d’être éclairé par le Saint Esprit, pour que ces textes prennent pleinement vie et sens.

Je peux aussi compter sur les recherches de nombreux chrétiens, qui m’aident à mieux comprendre le contexte, l’époque mais aussi la pertinence de ces écrits pour aujourd’hui.

J’en suis convaincu : la Bible, Parole de Dieu, mérite son titre de best-seller de tous les temps. Elle est un vrai trésor, toujours aussi pertinent !”

Come and Worship

Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns. Deuteronomy 31:12

How have you experienced the body of Christ as encompassing many generations and people groups? How have you given and received God’s love while at church?

Today's Scripture & Insight:

As they sang praise songs together in the multi-generational worship service, many experienced joy and peace. But not a frazzled mother. As she jiggled her baby, who was on the verge of crying, she held the songbook for her five-year-old while trying to stop her toddler from running off. Then an older gentleman sitting behind her offered to walk the toddler around the church and a young woman motioned that she could hold the songbook for the eldest child. Within two minutes, the mother’s experience was transformed and she could exhale, close her eyes, and worship God.

God has always intended that all His people worship Him—men and women, old and young, longtime believers, and newcomers. As Moses blessed the tribes of Israel before they entered the promised land, he urged them all to meet together, “men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns,” so that they could “listen and learn to fear the Lord your God” and to follow His commands (Deuteronomy 31:12). It honors God when we make it possible for His people to worship Him together, no matter our stage of life.

That morning in church, the mother, the older gentleman, and the young woman each experienced God’s love through giving and receiving. Perhaps the next time you’re at church, you too could either extend God’s love through an offer of help or you could be the one accepting the act of grace.
