Levons la tête

Il y avait une femme possédée depuis dix-huit ans d’un esprit qui la rendait infirme : elle était courbée et absolument incapable de se redresser… Jésus lui dit : Femme, tu es délivrée de ton infirmité. Puis il posa les mains sur elle, et à l’instant elle se redressa et glorifiait Dieu. Luc 13. 11-13
 

Depuis dix-huit ans, cette femme était pliée en deux. Que pouvait-elle voir ? Rien d’autre que ses pieds et la terre sur laquelle elle marchait. Impossible de lever les yeux pour regarder vers le ciel !

Ce récit, comme beaucoup d’autres dans l’évangile, a une portée symbolique. Par expérience, nous savons que certains fardeaux peuvent peser très lourd. Et il est normal qu’un individu portant un gros sac sur le dos soit penché vers l’avant pour garder l’équilibre. Ne nous arrive-t-il pas d’être incapables de nous détacher de nos préoccupations terrestres et d’être écrasés par elles ? Qu’est-ce qui nous accapare ? Nos problèmes personnels ? Les soucis que nous causent notre profession ou notre famille ? Peut-être une addiction ? Dieu nous invite à les déposer devant lui et à lever la tête en haut.

Cette femme, donc, était courbée vers le sol depuis dix-huit ans. Mais Jésus la voit et l’appelle. Dès qu’il la touche, la puissance sortie des mains de Jésus lui permet de se redresser. Alors un autre horizon s’ouvre pour elle : elle voit Jésus, elle voit son propre entourage, elle voit le ciel…, ce qui l’amène à glorifier Dieu.

Laissez le Seigneur Jésus toucher votre cœur. Si vous l’acceptez par la foi comme votre Sauveur personnel, votre vie sera entièrement changée. Les problèmes de la vie ne disparaîtront peut-être pas pour autant, mais vous pourrez lever les yeux vers le ciel, et Jésus Christ remplira votre regard.

Managing Our Gifts

Heavenly Father, at times I’ve squandered my gifts and talents. Sharpen my commitment to manage the gifts You’ve given me so the world praises You.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

In 2013, British actor David Suchet was filming the final TV episodes as Agatha Christie’s beloved Belgian detective Hercule Poirot—and also starring in a stage play—when he took on “the biggest role in [his] life.”

Between those projects he recorded an audio version of the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation—752,702 words—over two hundred hours.

Suchet, who became a believer in Jesus after reading the book of Romans in a Bible he found in a hotel room, called the project the fulfillment of “a 27-year-long ambition. I felt totally driven. I did so much research on every part of it that I couldn’t wait to get going.” Then he donated his wages.

His recording remains an inspiring example of how to glorify God by stewarding a gift, then sharing it. Peter urged such stewardship in his letter to first-century believers. Persecuted for worshiping Jesus, not Caesar, they were challenged to focus instead on living for God by nurturing their spiritual gifts. “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God” (1 Peter 4:11). Like all gifts, we can develop them “so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”

Suchet offered his talents to God. We can do the same. Whatever God has given to you, manage it well for His glory.
