Le chemin, c’est une personne

Il n’y a de salut en aucun autre [que Jésus] ; car il n’y a pas non plus sous le ciel d’autre nom qui soit donné parmi les hommes, par lequel il nous faut être sauvés. Actes 4. 12
 

Le pilote d’un avion militaire survole l’immense forêt impénétrable du Vietnam. Subitement le moteur ralentit et s’arrête complètement. Aussitôt, le pilote s’éjecte de l’appareil et ouvre son parachute. À l’atterrissage, celui-ci reste accroché aux branches d’un arbre. Ainsi suspendu, il n’arrive pas à se dégager… Soudain un bruit ! Un habitant de cette région isolée, qui a aperçu l’accident, pénètre dans les fourrés et le libère de cette situation désespérée. Enfin sur ses pieds, le pilote regarde autour de lui, mais aucune issue n’apparaît. Il fait comprendre à son sauveteur qu’il doit trouver un chemin. Comment sortir de cette forêt ? L’homme lui montre qu’il n’y a pas de route, et que c’est lui qui ouvre le chemin ! Sans dire un mot, il se fraye un passage avec son coupe-coupe. Le pilote le suit avec confiance et sort ainsi de la jungle.

N’est-ce pas là une illustration de notre situation ? Nous nous sommes éloignés de Dieu, et nous sommes incapables, par nos propres forces, de retourner à notre Créateur. Jésus Christ vient alors à notre rencontre et nous dit : “Moi, je suis le chemin, et la vérité, et la vie. Personne ne vient au Père si ce n’est par moi” (Jean 14. 6). Jésus seul peut nous délivrer, nous sauver et nous amener à Dieu. Lui faisons-nous confiance pour le suivre ? Jésus dit à son disciple Pierre : “Toi, suis-moi” (Jean 21. 23).

“Crois au Seigneur Jésus et tu seras sauvé” (Actes 16. 31).

Thanks, but No Thanks

Loving Father, You know my need. Help me to be wise and discerning in knowing when to partner with others.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

A Christian school for autistic children in India received a big donation from a corporation. After checking that there were no strings attached, they accepted the money. But later, the corporation requested to be represented on the school board. The school director returned the money. She refused to allow the values of the school to be compromised. She said, “It’s more important to do God’s work in God’s way.”

There are many reasons to decline help, and this is one of them. In the Bible we see another. When the exiled Jews returned to Jerusalem, King Cyrus commissioned them to rebuild the temple (Ezra 3). When their neighbors said, “Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God” (4:2), the leaders of Israel declined. They concluded that by accepting the offer of help, the integrity of the temple rebuilding project might have been compromised and idolatry could have crept into their community since their neighbors also worshiped idols. The Israelites made the right decision, as their “neighbors” then did all they could to discourage the building.

With the help of the Holy Spirit and the counsel of wise believers in Jesus, we can develop discernment. We can also be confident to say no to friendly offers that may hide subtle spiritual dangers because God’s work done in His way will never lack His provision.
