L’au-delà

Jésus lui dit : Parce que tu m’as vu, tu as cru ; bienheureux ceux qui n’ont pas vu et qui ont cru. Jean 20. 29
 

Que veut dire cette expression ? Au-delà de quoi ?

– Au-delà de nos vies terrestres.

– Au-delà de ce que nos yeux peuvent voir.

– Au-delà de nos raisonnements et de nos idées…

Ceux qui ne croient que ce qu’ils voient pensent que, quand quelqu’un meurt, tout s’arrête pour lui. D’autres disent : “Il y a bien quelque chose, mais quoi ?”

D’autres : “Comment pouvez-vous savoir ce qu’il y a dans l’au-delà puisque personne n’en est jamais revenu pour nous le raconter ?”

L’au-delà est du domaine de la foi. En effet la foi croit sans voir ni raisonner. Elle ne se fie pas à l’opinion publique, ni n’adhère aux idées qui lui conviennent. Non, la foi s’appuie sur ce que Dieu déclare dans sa Parole, la Bible. Celle-ci est sans équivoque : notre vie terrestre n’est qu’une étape, et lorsqu’elle s’achève, une nouvelle étape s’ouvre car tout homme a une existence immortelle. Cette nouvelle étape, dans l’au-delà, dépend des choix que nous aurons faits pendant notre vie sur la terre. Plus que cela : notre vie sur la terre nous est donnée pour nous préparer à l’au-delà.

Si vous avez vécu jusqu’ici sans Dieu, votre au-delà sera également loin de lui, mais sous son jugement. Aujourd’hui il n’est pas trop tard pour vous approcher de lui. Jésus, le Fils de Dieu, est venu sur la terre, il est mort et ressuscité. Il est passé dans cet “au-delà” en vainqueur. Pour tous ceux qui croient en lui, il a ouvert un chemin à travers la mort. Il les accueillera dans la maison du Père, un au-delà illuminé par la présence de Jésus, dans un bonheur éternel.

Follow the Leader

Father God, thank You for the example of Jesus. Show me how to follow Him in actions and in words every day.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

No words. Just music and moving. During a twenty-four-hour Zumba marathon amid the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of people from around the globe worked out together and virtually followed instructors from India, China, Mexico, America, South Africa, parts of Europe, and several other places.

These diverse individuals were able to move together without any language barriers. Why? Because instructors of the exercise craze Zumba, created in the mid-1990s by a Colombian aerobics instructor, utilize nonverbal cues to communicate. Class instructors move, and students follow their lead. They follow with no words uttered or shouted.

Words can sometimes get in the way and create barriers. They may cause confusion such as the Corinthians experienced, as noted in Paul’s first letter to them. It was confusion brought about by differing views of disputable matters pertaining to the eating of particular foods (1 Corinthians 10:27–30).

But our actions can transcend barriers and even confusion. As Paul says in today’s passage, we should show people how to follow Jesus through our actions—seeking “the good of many” (10:32–33). We invite the world to believe in Him as we “follow the example of Christ” (11:1).

As someone once said, “Preach the gospel at all times. Use words when necessary.” As we follow Jesus’ lead, may He guide our actions to cue others to the reality of our faith. And may our words and actions be done “all for the glory of God” (10:31).
