Mon fils, donne-moi ton coeur. Proverbes 23. 26

Dans le sud des États-Unis, un missionnaire prêchait à un groupe dans la forêt. Il parlait de Jésus, le bon Berger qui est venu dans le monde pour chercher et sauver ceux qui étaient perdus. Il leur dit aussi comment le Sauveur avait prié instamment dans le jardin de Gethsémané, à la perspective de sa crucifixion. Il décrivit comment Il avait été pris par les hommes et soumis à un traitement infâme, puis abandonné par Dieu, lorsqu’il souffrait et mourait pour nous.

Alors un Indien s’approcha du missionnaire et, les larmes aux yeux, lui demanda :
- Est-ce que Jésus est aussi mort pour moi, pauvre Indien que je suis ? Je ne peux pas donner de terre à Jésus, mais je lui donnerai mon chien et mon fusil.

Le missionnaire répondit gentiment que Jésus attendait de lui quelque chose de tout à fait différent.
- Eh bien, je lui donnerai mon chien, mon fusil, et ma couverture de laine. Je ne peux rien lui donner de plus. Je donne à Jésus tout ce que je possède.

Le prédicateur répéta ce qu’il venait de dire. Le pauvre homme baissa tristement la tête, en réfléchissant. Soudain il releva la tête avec plus de confiance et dit :
- Voici l’Indien lui-même. Est-ce que Jésus voudra de lui ?

Avons-nous fait cette expérience merveilleuse de nous abandonner entièrement à Jésus ? Alors, comme l’apôtre Paul, nous pourrons dire sincèrement et avec joie : “Je ne vis plus, moi, mais Christ vit en moi… Ce que je vis maintenant…, je le vis dans la foi, la foi au Fils de Dieu, qui m’a aimé et qui s’est livré lui-même pour moi” (Galates 2. 20).

Legacy of Kindness

All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Acts 9:39

Loving God, please help me to love others in practical ways each day so I can leave a legacy of kindness that points others straight to You.

Today's Scripture & Insight : Acts 9:36–42

Martha served as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school for over thirty years. Every year, she saved money to buy new coats, scarves, and gloves for students in need. After she lost her fight with leukemia, we held a celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, people donated hundreds of brand-new winter coats to the students she loved and served for decades. Many people shared stories about the countless ways Martha encouraged others with kind words and thoughtful deeds. Her fellow teachers honored her memory with an annual coat drive for three years after her life ended on this side of eternity. Her legacy of kindness still inspires others to generously serve those in need.

In Acts 9, the apostle Luke shares a story about Dorcas, a woman who was “always doing good and helping the poor” (v. 36). After she got sick and died, the grieving community urged Peter to visit. All the widows showed Peter how Dorcas had lived to serve (v. 39). In a miraculous act of compassion, Peter brought Dorcas back to life. The news of Dorcas’ resurrection spread, and “many people believed in the Lord” (v. 42). But it was Dorcas’ commitment to serving others in practical ways that touched the hearts in her community and revealed the power of loving generosity.
