Les uns à l’égard des autres, soyez bons, compatissants, vous pardonnant les uns aux autres, comme Dieu aussi, en Christ, vous a pardonné. Éphésiens 4. 32

“Enfin, j’avais trouvé et compris la vérité que je cherchais depuis si longtemps. C’est Jésus qui, à mes côtés, me protégeait et me guidait, même si je ne le connaissais pas à l’époque. Lui seul, toujours vivant, était puissant pour agir sur ma destinée. Je lui devais ma survie. Je lui devais ma vie. Je lui devais tout.”

Une chose, pourtant, retenait encore Koeun. Sur la croix, ce Jésus qu’il découvrait avait pardonné à ses bourreaux. Lui ne pourrait jamais pardonner aux Khmers rouges… Ce n’est qu’après un âpre combat intérieur qu’il accepta de renoncer à toute l’amertume et la haine qui l’avaient rempli. “J’ai soudain senti qu’un lourd fardeau était enlevé de mes épaules. Je me sentais léger. La haine et le désir de vengeance avaient noirci mon regard durant toutes ces années. Malgré l’obscurité ambiante, j’avais enfin l’impression d’y voir clair. Un sentiment de paix a alors rempli mon coeur. J’étais libre, vraiment libre. Ce n’était pas une libération physique ou politique, telle que je l’avais espérée. Mais j’avais trouvé la vraie liberté, celle qui ne dépendait pas des circonstances, celle que personne ne pourrait jamais m’enlever, que je sois enfermé entre les quatre murs d’une prison, ou que je sois un réfugié de guerre à l’autre bout du monde. J’étais désormais en paix. Libre dans mon coeur des chaînes de la culpabilité, du doute, de la haine, de tous les sentiments qui me rongeaient. Jésus, lui, était venu à moi, il m’avait trouvé, et donné sa paix.”

Hosting Royalty

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. Galatians 3:26

King of kings and Lord of lords, You are mighty and glorious. Thank You for stooping down to love me and for welcoming me as Your child.

Today's Scripture & Insight : Galatians 3:26–29

After meeting the Queen of the United Kingdom at a ball in Scotland, Sylvia and her husband received a message that the royal family would like to visit them for tea. Sylvia started cleaning and prepping, nervous about hosting the royal guests. Before they were due to arrive, she went outside to pick some flowers for the table, her heart racing. Then she sensed God reminding her that He’s the King of kings and that He’s with her every day. Immediately she felt peaceful and thought, “After all, it’s only the Queen!”

Sylvia is right. As the apostle Paul noted, God is the “King of kings and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:15) and those who follow Him are “children of God” (Galatians 3:26). When we belong to Christ, we’re heirs of Abraham (v. 29). We no longer are bound by division—such as that of race, social class, or gender—for we’re “all one in Christ Jesus” (v. 28). We’re children of the King.

Although Sylvia and her husband had a marvelous meal with the Queen, I don’t anticipate receiving an invitation from the monarch anytime soon. But I love the reminder that the highest King of all is with me every moment. And that those who believe in Jesus wholeheartedly (v. 27) can live in unity, knowing they’re God’s children.
