L’Esprit de Dieu (2)

Celui qui nous lie fermement avec vous à Christ et qui nous a oints, c’est Dieu, qui aussi nous a marqués de son sceau, et nous a donné les arrhes de l’Esprit dans nos coeurs. 2 Corinthiens 1. 21, 22

Chaque croyant né de nouveau possède le Saint Esprit, qui habite dans son corps comme dans un temple (1 Corinthiens 6. 19). Dans les versets cités, l’Esprit est présenté sous trois aspects :
- Un sceau, une marque d’appartenance. Il porte le nom de son propriétaire, ou un signe permettant d’identifier son propriétaire. Par le sceau du Saint Esprit, Dieu met donc sur le croyant une marque : cette marque identifie de façon certaine le croyant comme appartenant à Dieu.

- Des arrhes : on verse des arrhes sur une somme d’argent que l’on doit, pour en garantir le paiement complet plus tard. Le Saint Esprit, que le croyant possède dans son coeur aujourd’hui, lui donne, avec la certitude d’appartenir à Jésus, la paix, la joie, dans l’attente du parfait bonheur dont il héritera avec Jésus dans le ciel.

- Une onction : c’est l’acte par lequel on versait de l’huile sur la tête de quelqu’un pour le mettre à part, en vue de lui conférer une fonction particulière, comme le sacerdoce (Exode 29. 7) ou la royauté (1 Samuel 16. 11-13). Aujourd’hui le Saint Esprit rend l’enfant de Dieu capable de comprendre ce qui plaît à Dieu et de le vivre, quel que soit son âge dans la foi (1 Jean 2. 20).

L’onction du Saint Esprit attribue à chacun une mission et le qualifie pour servir Dieu.

Chrétiens, le fait que l’Esprit habite en nous est un trésor et une ressource inestimable !

Got Plans?

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9

Loving and wise Father, help me to trust You even in my disappointments knowing that You’re a good and faithful God and You’ll establish my steps.

Today's Scripture & Insight : Proverbs 16:3–9

Caden, a young man of almost eighteen, was anticipating attending his first choice of a college on an academic scholarship. He was involved in a campus ministry in high school and looked forward to participating in a similar ministry in the new environment. He’d saved money from his part-time job and also had an excellent lead on a new job. He’d established some great goals, and everything was coming together exactly on schedule.

And then in the spring of 2020 a global health crisis changed everything.

The school let Caden know that his first semester would probably be online. The campus ministry was on hiatus. The job prospect dried up when the business closed. As he despaired, his buddy glibly quoted words from a well-known professional boxer: “Yeah, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

Proverbs 16 tells us that when we commit all we do to God, He’ll establish our plans and work things out according to His will (vv. 3–4). True commitment, however, can be difficult. It involves an open heart to God’s direction, along with a willingness to resist charting our course independently (v. 9; 19:21).

Dreams that don’t come to fruition can bring disappointment, but our limited vision for the future can never compete with God’s all-knowing ways. As we yield ourselves to Him, we can be certain that He’s still lovingly directing our steps even when we don’t see the path ahead (16:9).
