Ai-je besoin d’un Sauveur ?

Éternel ! délivre mon âme ; sauve-moi à cause de ta bonté. Psaume 6. 4

Dieu est un, et le médiateur entre Dieu et les hommes est un, l’homme Christ Jésus, qui s’est donné lui-même en rançon pour tous. 1 Timothée 2. 5, 6

Je crois vraiment en Dieu, j’admets que l’évangile est vrai, je reçois les preuves de la vie, de la mort et de la résurrection de Jésus Christ. N’est-ce pas suffisant ? Non, pour être sauvé, il faut encore éprouver le besoin d’être délivré de ses péchés. Alors, qui peut me sauver du châtiment que je mérite à cause de ma propre culpabilité ? Qui peut répondre à l’offense faite à Dieu quand l’homme a crucifié Jésus, lui le juste, son envoyé, l’unique Fils bien-aimé de Dieu le Père ?

L’amour de Dieu répond : Jésus seul !

Celui que l’homme a méprisé, haï, rejeté, crucifié, lui seul, victime sainte et pure, a pu porter sur la croix le châtiment que méritaient toutes nos offenses.

Ô Christ ! ta charité profonde
Touche et pénètre notre coeur,
Tu meurs pour le péché du monde :
Toi seul es notre Dieu Sauveur !

Jésus, dont le nom signifie Dieu Sauveur, est bien celui vers qui nous devons lever les regards pour être sauvés. Sauvés signifie être pleinement assurés qu’en croyant en son nom nous avons une parfaite délivrance de tout le mal qui est dans notre coeur. Et bien plus, maintenant ce coeur peut être comblé par les dons de Jésus. “Je vous laisse la paix ; je vous donne ma paix” (Jean 14. 27), a-t-il dit à ses disciples avant d’aller à la croix.

En toi, Dieu Sauveur, J’ai la paix du coeur ;
Tu fis tout pour moi ; Et sur ta justice
Se fonde ma foi.

God at Work

Surely he was the Son of God! Matthew 27:54

Father, thank You for loving the world so much that You sent Jesus so I can be forgiven. Help me to demonstrate forgiveness toward others by the way I live.

Today's Scripture & Insight : Matthew 27:50–54

“God is crying.” Those were the words whispered by Bill Haley’s ten-year-old daughter as she stood in the rain with a group of multiethnic believers in Jesus. They had come to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley to seek God and make sense of the legacy of racial discord in America. As they stood on the grounds where former slaves were buried, they joined hands in prayer. Then suddenly the wind began to blow, and it started to rain. As the leader called out for racial healing, the rain began to fall even harder. Those gathered believed that God was at work to bring reconciliation and forgiveness.

And so was it at Calvary—God was at work. After the crucified Jesus breathed His last, “The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open” (Matthew 27:51–52). Though some had denied who Jesus was, a centurion assigned to guard Him had come to a different conclusion: “When the centurion and those with him . . . saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, ‘Surely he was the Son of God!’ ” (v. 54).

In the death of Jesus, God was at work providing forgiveness of sin for all who believe in Him. “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them” (2 Corinthians 5:19). And what better way to demonstrate that we’ve been forgiven by God than to extend forgiveness to each other.
