Jésus Christ, l’Homme parfait

La beauté et la grandeur de Christ apparaissent dans sa parfaite humanité. Il est entré dans ce monde comme un homme humble, parmi les pauvres. Il a grandi, il a travaillé, pleuré, prié… Il était parfaitement humain, mais sans péché (Hébreux 4. 15). Ainsi Jean n’a pas hésité à appuyer sa tête contre lui (Jean 13. 23). Ses disciples lui ont posé des questions, et même, tant il était accessible, l’ont repris à cause de leur ignorance. Il a reçu toutes sortes de personnes, et a toujours été “ému de compassion” envers elles (Matthieu 9. 36 ; 14. 14 ; Marc 1. 41). Il n’a pas cherché à guérir uniquement ceux qui le méritaient, mais “tous ceux qui se portaient mal” (Matthieu 8. 16).

Jésus a agi à l’égard de chacun avec bonté, mais aussi vérité. Par exemple, il montre à Nicodème, un homme religieux instruit, son ignorance sur des points essentiels, mais il le fait sans aucune parole dure, sans le blesser (Jean 3. 10-21). Avec patience, il dévoile les plus profondes vérités à une femme de Samarie ; mais auparavant, avec douceur et fermeté, il la place devant son péché (Jean 4. 7-29).

Tous les traits du caractère parfait de Jésus sont en équilibre harmonieux. Pas de faiblesse dans sa douceur. Sa manière de corriger ne s’accompagne jamais de dureté. Lors de son arrestation et devant ses juges, il répond avec calme et dignité. Sur la croix, alors qu’il connaît de terribles souffrances, il demande le pardon pour ceux qui le crucifient (Luc 23. 34), et il prend encore soin de sa mère (Jean 19. 26, 27).

Toute sa Personne n’est-elle pas merveilleuse ?

Look for the Green

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1

The gravelly voiced captain announced yet another delay. Crammed in my window seat aboard a plane that had already sat unmoving for two hours, I chafed in frustration. After a long workweek away, I longed for the comfort and rest of home. How much longer? As I gazed out the raindrop-covered window, I noticed a lonely triangle of green grass growing in the gap of cement where runways met. Such an odd sight in the middle of all that concrete.

As an experienced shepherd, David knew well the need to provide the rest of green pastures for his sheep. In Psalm 23, he penned an important lesson that would carry him forward in the exhausting days of leading as king of Israel. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, . . . he refreshes my soul” (vv. 1–3).

On the concrete jungle of an airport tarmac, delayed from my destination and feeling the lack of comfort and rest, God, my good Shepherd, directed my eyes to a patch of green. In relationship with Him, I can discover His ongoing provision of rest wherever I am—if I notice and enter it.

The lesson has lingered over the years: look for the green. It’s there. With God in our lives, we lack nothing. He makes us lie down in green pastures. He refreshes our souls.
