Je sais qu’il est mon Dieu

“Après des études de gestion, j’ai suivi des cours d’apologétique islamique. J’étais un hafez (quelqu’un qui récite le Coran), et je le connaissais donc bien, mais cela ne m’empêchait pas de me poser des questions. Je me suis donc penché sur les autres religions et j’en ai conclu que tous les livres religieux avaient été écrits par des hommes sauf le Nouveau Testament. En le lisant, je sentais qu’il n’avait pas été créé par l’homme. J’ai cru en sa véracité. À partir de ce moment-là, j’étais chrétien, mais je ne vivais pas selon ma foi.

J’avais créé une entreprise qui est devenue l’une des plus grandes de mon pays, je me suis engagé en politique. Tout me réussissait, mais un événement est survenu qui a changé toute ma vie. Mon épouse, que j’aimais tant, est décédée. Suite à son départ, je suis tombé dans une profonde dépression ; je ne voyais plus de raison de vivre et j’ai vendu mon entreprise.

Finalement, j’ai dû consulter un cardiologue qui m’a dit  : ”Vous auriez dû venir plus tôt, vous avez une artère bouchée“. Au moment de l’anesthésie, j’étais terrifié. Mes chances de survie ne dépassaient pas 5 %, m’avait-on dit. Alors je me suis mis à prier mais je ne ressentais aucune paix. Juste au moment où je perdais conscience, j’ai appelé ”Jésus“ trois fois. J’ai immédiatement été apaisé et j’ai su que j’allais m’en sortir. L’opération a en effet réussi. Mais surtout, depuis ce jour-là, je me suis attaché à Jésus. Avant je pensais que Jésus n’était qu’un homme, mais après ce qui m’est arrivé je sais qu’il est mon Dieu.”

Unseen Realities

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but . . . against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

In 1876, men drilling for coal in central Indiana thought they had found the gates of hell. Historian John Barlow Martin reports that at six hundred feet, “foul fumes issued forth amid awesome noises.” Afraid they had “bitten into the roof of the devil’s cave,” the miners plugged the well and scurried back to their homes.

The miners, of course, were mistaken—and some years later, they would drill again and be rich in natural gas. Even though they were mistaken, I find myself a little jealous of them. These miners lived with an awareness of the spiritual world that is often missing from my own life. It’s easy for me to live as if the supernatural and the natural rarely intersect and to forget that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but . . . against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

When we see evil winning in our world, we shouldn’t give in or try to fight it in our own strength. Instead, we’re to resist evil by putting on “the full armor of God” (vv. 13–18).

Studying Scripture, meeting regularly with other believers for encouragement, and making choices with the good of others in mind can help us “stand against the devil’s schemes” (v. 11). Equipped by the Holy Spirit, we can stand firm in the face of anything (v. 13).
