Dans la maison du Seigneur

Oui, la bonté et la grâce me suivront tous les jours de ma vie, et mon habitation sera dans la maison de l'Éternel pour de longs jours. Psaume 23. 6

(Jésus a dit :) Dans la maison de mon Père, il y a de nombreuses demeures… Je reviendrai et je vous prendrai auprès de moi, afin que là où moi je suis, vous, vous soyez aussi. Jean 14. 2, 3

Les sentiers escarpés, la vallée sombre, les ennemis… de tout cela, David ne parle plus. Confiant, il regarde en avant et il a deux certitudes : la bonté de son Berger l'accompagnera toujours et, à la fin, il habitera dans la maison de l'Éternel. En regardant en arrière, le croyant constate avec quel amour le Seigneur l'a conduit. Et il peut affirmer qu'il va être encore, et toujours, entouré de cet amour. Comment le sait-il ? Parce que le Seigneur a promis d'être avec lui jusqu'au bout, tous les jours de sa vie (Philippiens 1. 6 ; Matthieu 28. 20). Il l'aidera et veillera sur lui tout au long de son voyage jusqu'au but final !

Quel but ? Pour David, c'était la maison de l'Éternel, son temple sur la terre. Pour nous, c'est la maison du Père, le ciel, l'éternité. C'est là que le Seigneur nous a préparé une place et qu'il nous prendra pour toujours avec lui. Nous serons avec celui qui a été notre Berger sur la terre. Ce sera le repos parfait et définitif.

Ailleurs David a parlé de la beauté de l'Éternel dans son temple (Psaume 27. 4 ; 63. 2 ; 65. 4), il ne se lassait pas d'une telle contemplation. Pour nous, le Seigneur veut que nous voyions sa gloire dans la maison du Père. “Père, je veux, quant à ceux que tu m'as donnés, que là où je suis, moi, ils y soient aussi avec moi, afin qu'ils contemplent ma gloire” (Jean 17. 24).

Oui, le chemin se termine dans ce pays glorieux
Où luit ta beauté divine, ô Sauveur victorieux.
Là, bonheur incomparable, adorant, glorifiés,
À toi nous serons semblables, Jésus, pour l'éternité.

Haystack Prayers

You help us by your prayers. 2 Corinthians 1:11

What request can you and others pray for? How has your faith been strengthened when you pray with others?

Today's Scripture & Insight: 2 Corinthians 1:8–11

Samuel Mills and four of his friends often gathered together to pray for God to send more people to share the good news of Jesus. One day in 1806, after returning from their prayer meeting, they got caught in a thunderstorm and took refuge in a haystack. Their weekly prayer gathering then became known as the Haystack Prayer Meeting, which resulted in a global mission movement. Today the Haystack Prayer Monument stands at Williams College in the US as a reminder of what God can do through prayer.

Our heavenly Father is delighted when His children approach Him with a common request. It’s like a family gathering where they’re united in purpose, sharing a common burden.

The apostle Paul acknowledges how God helped him through the prayers of others during a time of severe suffering: “He will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers” (2 Corinthians 1:10–11). God has chosen to use our prayers—especially our prayers together—to accomplish His work in the world. No wonder the verse continues: “Then many will give thanks . . . [for the] answer to the prayers of many.”

Let’s pray together so we can also rejoice together in God’s goodness. Our loving Father is waiting for us to come to Him so He can work through us in ways that reach far beyond anything we could ever imagine.

Father, help us to pray together even as we work together.
