Gains et pertes

Les choses qui pour moi étaient un gain, je les ai considérées, à cause du Christ, comme une perte… à cause de l'excellence de la connaissance du Christ Jésus mon Seigneur, à cause de qui j'ai fait la perte de toutes et je les estime comme des ordures, afin que je gagne Christ. Philippiens 3. 7, 8
 

Beaucoup de gens suivent chaque jour avec attention les cours de la Bourse. Chacun d'eux fait aussi le bilan : combien ai-je gagné, combien ai-je perdu ?

Dans les évangiles, Jésus Christ a posé cette question : “Quel profit y aura-t-il pour un homme s'il gagne le monde entier, mais qu'il fasse la perte de son âme ? ” (Matthieu 16. 26). Il nous invite ainsi à réfléchir sur le sens profond de notre vie. Quelles sont les vraies richesses pour nous ? Dans quelle mesure ce que je fais est-il un gain ou une perte ?

Les richesses matérielles ou intellectuelles amassées sur cette terre sont passagères, la mort nous en privera définitivement. Dieu nous invite à nous faire un trésor dans le ciel, où rien ne peut être abîmé. “Faites-vous des bourses qui ne vieillissent pas, un trésor inépuisable, dans les cieux” (Luc 12. 33). Ces richesses-là ne sont pas matérielles mais bien meilleures. Elles sont spirituelles, et nous les possédons quand nous croyons en Jésus Christ. Il nous les a acquises par le sang qu'il a versé à la croix pour nous délivrer de notre culpabilité devant Dieu. Ce sang est bien plus précieux que l'argent ou l'or (1 Pierre 1. 18, 19). Et nous partagerons avec Jésus éternellement ses richesses morales : la justice, la paix, la joie. L'espérance d'être bientôt avec Jésus faisait dire à l'apôtre Paul que tout le reste n'avait plus de valeur pour lui.

Use Your Voice

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 1 Corinthians 12:4

Father, show me how You’ve gifted me and how I’m to use those gifts for others.

I was invited to meet a world-renowned pianist. Since I grew up immersed in music—playing the violin and piano, and primarily singing solos for church and other events—I was thrilled at the opportunity.

When I arrived to meet the pianist, I realized he spoke little English; and to my surprise he provided a cello for me to play—an instrument I’d never touched. He insisted that I play and he would accompany me. I screeched out a few notes, trying to mimic my violin training. Finally admitting that I was lost, we parted ways.

I awoke, realizing the scenario had been a dream. But since the musical background presented in my dream was true, in my mind lingered the words, Why didn’t you tell him you could sing?

God equips us to develop our natural talents and our spiritual gifts for others (1 Corinthians 12:7). Through prayerful reading of the Bible and the wise advice of others, we can better understand the spiritual gift (or gifts) that is uniquely ours. The apostle Paul reminds us that whatever our spiritual gift, we’re to take time to find it and use it, knowing that the Spirit distributes the gifts “just as he determines” (v. 11).

Let’s use the “voices” the Holy Spirit has given us to honor God and serve other believers in Jesus.
