Le chrétien poursuit la conversation :

– Les Écritures montrent elles-mêmes leur origine divine et la divinité de Jésus Christ.

– Je lirai la Bible. Et que dois-je faire d'autre ?

– Prier.

– Mais je ne crois pas en Dieu. Pourquoi prier ?

– Ce n'est pas un obstacle, mais vous devez être honnête. Dieu répond à celui qui le recherche sincèrement.

– Y a-t-il quelque chose de plus à faire ?

– Demandez à Dieu de vous éclairer quand vous lisez. Agissez alors d'après la lumière qu'il vous donnera, puis allez au Seigneur Jésus, pour apprendre à le connaître comme votre Sauveur personnel.

– Est-ce tout ?

– Oui, il n'y a rien de plus à faire. Mais voulez-vous me promettre de suivre mon conseil ?

– J'essaierai… Deux semaines plus tard le jeune homme revient raconter à l'évangéliste :

– Après notre conversation je suis rentré chez moi. J'ai lu les textes que vous m'aviez indiqués. Puis j'ai prié Dieu, simplement mais instamment, de me montrer d'une façon claire s'il existait, de me prouver que la Bible est sa Parole, et que Jésus Christ est son Fils et le Sauveur des pécheurs. Alors que je lisais, priais et demandais d'être éclairé, j'ai reçu vraiment la lumière. Tout est devenu clair pour moi, de sorte que, finalement, j'ai répondu à l'invitation de Jésus. Fatigué et chargé, je suis allé vers lui, et j'ai trouvé la paix intérieure. Je sais maintenant qu'il m'aime et que mes péchés sont ôtés par la puissance de son sang.

Only a Gypsy Boy

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession. 1 Peter 2:9

God, I thank You that my identity is found in You.

“Oh, it’s only a gypsy boy,” someone whispered with disgust when Rodney Smith walked to the front of the chapel to receive Christ during a service in 1877. Nobody thought much of this teenager, the son of uneducated gypsy parents. Yet, Rodney didn’t listen to those voices. He was certain that God had a purpose for his life so he bought himself a Bible and an English dictionary and taught himself how to read and write. He once said, “The way to Jesus is not by Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, or the poets. It is . . . an old-fashioned hill called Calvary.” Against all odds, Rodney became an evangelist who God used to bring many to Jesus in the UK and US.

Peter too was just a simple man—untrained in the religious rabbinic schools (Acts 4:13), a fisherman from Galilee—when Jesus called him with two simple words: “Follow me” (Matthew 4:19). Yet the same Peter, despite his upbringing and the failures he experienced along the way, later affirmed that those who follow Jesus are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (1 Peter 2:9).

Through Jesus Christ all people—whatever their education, upbringing, gender, or ethnicity—can be a part of the family of God and be used by Him. Becoming God’s “special possession” is for all who believe in Jesus.
