Il est encore écrit

(Le diable dit à Jésus:) Si tu es Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas, car il est écrit: “Il donnera des ordres à ses anges à ton sujet, et ils te porteront… de peur que tu ne heurtes ton pied contre une pierre”. Jésus lui dit: Il est encore écrit: “Tu ne tenteras pas le Seigneur ton Dieu”. Matthieu 4. 6, 7
 

Lorsque Jésus est tenté par Satan dans le désert, le diable lui cite la Parole de Dieu: “Il est écrit” (Psaume 91. 11, 12). Mais il la cite de façon incomplète et hors de son contexte, pour inciter Jésus à désobéir à Dieu. Jésus lui répond: “Il est encore écrit” et cite un nouveau texte de la Parole de Dieu avec exactitude. Alors Satan s'incline, puis s'en va.

Aujourd'hui, Satan cherche aussi à troubler les chrétiens qui lisent la Bible de façon incomplète ou superficielle. Ainsi, en citant cette parole du Christ: “Bienheureux les pauvres en esprit”, certains prétendent que l'évangile conduirait à l'obscurantisme!

Si l'on ne tient pas compte du contexte, on peut tirer de fausses conclusions. Ainsi, des chrétiens authentiques sont angoissés à l'idée qu'ils pourraient perdre leur salut. Ils interprètent mal des textes qui s'adressent à des personnes n'ayant pas la vie divine, mais se disant chrétiennes (voir Hébreux 6. 4-6).

Chrétiens, ne nous laissons pas troubler! Si un texte biblique, pris isolément, semble contredire l'enseignement clair d'autres textes, replaçons-le dans son contexte, et demandons à Dieu de nous éclairer. Il ne manquera pas de le faire. La Parole de Dieu est un tout, cohérent et vrai (Psaume 19. 9). Appuyons-nous sur ce qui est fermement établi. Le Dieu de vérité ne se contredit pas! Lisons la Bible attentivement, laissons chaque texte à sa juste place. Et si Satan essaie de nous troubler par un “il est écrit”, prenons exemple sur Jésus, et répondons comme lui: “Il est encore écrit”!

Amnesia

When we forget who we are, our Father cares.

Emergency Services in Carlsbad, California, came to the rescue of a woman with an Australian accent who couldn’t recall who she was. Because she was suffering from amnesia and had no ID with her, she was unable to provide her name or where she had come from. It took the help of doctors and international media to restore her health, tell her story, and reunite her with her family.

Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, also lost sight of who he was and where he had come from. His “amnesia,” though, was spiritual. In taking credit for the kingdom he’d been given, he forgot that God is the King of Kings, and everything he had was from Him (Daniel 4:17, 28–30).

Father, when we forget who we are, help us to remember where we've come from and that we belong to You.

God dramatized the king’s state of mind by driving him into the fields to live with wild animals and graze like a cow (vv. 32–33). Finally, after seven years Nebuchadnezzar looked up to the skies, and his memory of who he was and who had given him his kingdom returned. With his senses restored, he declared, “I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven” (v. 37).

What about us? Who do we think we are? Where did we come from? Since we are inclined to forget, who can we count on to help us remember but the King of Kings?

Father, we are so inclined to forget who we are, where we’ve come from, and that we belong to You. Help us to remember that in Christ we are Your children—known, loved, gifted, and cared for—now and forever.
