Se mettre en route

Jésus lui répondit: Que veux-tu que je fasse pour toi? L'aveugle lui dit: Maître, que je recouvre la vue. Jésus lui dit: Va, ta foi t'a guéri. Aussitôt il recouvra la vue et le suivit dans le chemin. Marc 10. 51, 52
 

Être chrétien, c'est d'abord et avant tout avoir rencontré le Christ. Cette première rencontre se produit de façon très différente d'une personne à l'autre. Pour l'une ce sont des circonstances dramatiques, pour l'autre c'est le résultat de contacts avec des croyants, ou encore l'impact de tel ou tel verset de la Bible, qui l'ont conduite au Seigneur. Certaines se souviennent très bien du moment où elles ont cru, où la paix a jailli dans leur âme. Pour d'autres, la lumière s'est faite progressivement en elles. Toutes ces rencontres avec Jésus ont cependant un point commun: elles sont préparées par Dieu.
 

Dès lors le croyant se met en route pour les différentes étapes de sa vie avec Dieu. Nous voyons cela dans toute la Bible: Abraham s'en va à la parole du Seigneur (Genèse 12. 4; Hébreux 11. 8), comme l'aveugle du verset de ce jour. Cette décision est signe d'un changement intérieur, produit par l'Esprit de Dieu.
 

Jésus invite chacun à devenir son disciple et à marcher avec lui. Il se révèle comme étant lui-même le chemin qui conduit vers le Père (Jean 14. 6). Le croyant n'est donc plus un être livré à lui-même dont la vie n'a pas de sens. Il devient un voyageur tourné vers le but à atteindre, guidé tout au long de son parcours, d'étape en étape, vers la maison du Père, en suivant le Seigneur Jésus, son Berger.

Jay Bufton turned his hospital room into a lighthouse.
 

The fifty-two-year-old husband, father, high school teacher, and coach was dying of cancer, but his room—Room 5020—became a beacon of hope for friends, family, and hospital workers. Because of his joyful attitude and strong faith, nurses wanted to be assigned to Jay. Some even came to see him during off-hours.

We can have confidence in our good and trustworthy God!
 

Even as his once-athletic body was wasting away, he greeted anyone and everyone with a smile and encouragement. One friend said, “Every time I visited Jay he was upbeat, positive, and filled with hope. He was, even while looking cancer and death in the face, living out his faith.”
 

At Jay’s funeral, one speaker noted that Room 5020 had a special meaning. He pointed to Genesis 50:20, in which Joseph says that although his brothers sold him into slavery, God turned the tables and accomplished something good: “the saving of many lives.” Cancer invaded Jay’s life, but by recognizing God’s hand at work Jay could say that “God intended it for good.” That’s why Jay could use even the ravages of cancer as an open door to tell others about Jesus.
 

What a legacy of unwavering trust in our Savior even as death was knocking at the door! What a testimony of confidence in our good and trustworthy God!
 

Lord, difficult things come into our lives so often. Please help us to trust You enough to see that nothing is beyond Your control. Help us to tell of Your love even in the tough times.
