Enseigne-moi, Seigneur!

Fais-moi connaître le chemin où j'ai à marcher… Enseigne-moi à faire ce qui te plaît, car tu es mon Dieu. Psaume 143. 8, 10


Moi, je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'enseigne pour ton profit, qui te dirige dans le chemin par lequel tu dois marcher. Ésaïe 48. 17


Dans la Bible, Dieu promet très souvent d'enseigner et de diriger les siens. Ainsi il y a comme un dialogue entre le Seigneur et ceux qui le recherchent et vivent près de lui: le croyant ressent le besoin d'être conduit et instruit, il l'exprime par la prière; le Seigneur répond par les promesses de sa Parole et par ses soins de chaque jour. Enfin le croyant remercie Dieu et le loue pour la manière dont il l'a dirigé.


Heureux celui qui connaît Dieu et sait qu'il peut compter sur lui pour être conduit dans la bonne voie! Heureux celui qui désire être enseigné par le Seigneur et lui dire: “Éternel! Enseigne-moi ton chemin; je marcherai dans ta vérité; unis mon cœur à la crainte de ton nom” (Psaume 86. 11).


Jour après jour, Seigneur, – Enseigne-moi;
Garde mon faible cœur – Bien près de toi.
Que dans un chemin droit – Je marche par la foi,
Les yeux fixés sur toi, – Mon Rédempteur!


Seigneur, dans la douleur, – Enseigne-moi;
Sur la mer en fureur, – Dirige-moi.
Oui, dans la sombre nuit, – Ton doux regard me suit,
Ta bonté me conduit: – J'irai sans peur.


Par ton Esprit, Seigneur, – Enseigne-moi
À vivre à ton honneur, – Où que je sois.
Jusqu'au bout du chemin, – Par ton pouvoir divin,
Que je reste en ta main, – Ô mon Sauveur!

God’s Doing Something New


May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 1 Thessalonians 3:12


 Our troubles can fill our prayers with love and empathy for others.


“Is God doing something new in your life?” was the question the leader asked in a group I was in recently. My friend Mindy, who is dealing with some difficult situations, responded. She told of needing patience with aging parents, stamina for her husband’s health issues, and understanding of her children and grandchildren who have not yet chosen to follow Jesus. Then she made an insightful comment that runs contrary to what we might normally think: “I believe the new thing God is doing is He’s expanding my capacity and opportunities to love.”


That fits nicely with the apostle Paul’s prayer for new believers in Thessalonica: “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else” (1 Thess. 3:12). He had taught them about Jesus but had to leave abruptly because of rioting (Acts 17:1–9). Now in his letter he encouraged them to continue to stand firm in their faith (1 Thess. 3:7–8). And he prayed that the Lord would increase their love for all.


Lord, open my eyes to love.


During difficulties we often choose to complain and ask, Why? Or wonder, Why me? Another way to handle those times could be to ask the Lord to expand His love in our hearts and to help us take the new opportunities that come to love others.
