Où es-tu?

L'Éternel Dieu appela l'homme, et lui dit: Où es-tu? Genèse 3. 9

Le diable, par sa séduction, a réussi à faire douter les humains de la sagesse et de la bonté de Dieu, leur Créateur. Orgueil, doute et méfiance les ont entraînés à la désobéissance ouverte au commandement de Dieu. Adam et Ève ont ainsi cédé au péché et ont perdu la paix de la communion avec Dieu. La relation qu'ils avaient avec leur Créateur a été rompue. De plus, cette situation de désobéissance a altéré leur relation l'un avec l'autre, car Adam a attribué à Ève la responsabilité de leur faute commune.

Et comment ont-ils réagi tous les deux, quand la voix de leur conscience les a accusés? Ils se sont cachés, pensant qu'ils pourraient se soustraire au regard de Dieu. Pas de confession, pas de retour, pas un mot pour reconnaître qu'ils avaient gâché la situation.

Aujourd'hui encore, les hommes veulent vivre sans Dieu. Beaucoup sont tombés si bas dans leur aveuglement et leur rébellion contre Dieu qu'ils ne remarquent même pas dans quelles tristes conditions ils se trouvent.

“Où es-tu?” nous dit Dieu. Il le sait parfaitement, mais avec bonté il appelle chacun, comme autrefois Adam. Dieu cherche ceux qui se reconnaissent perdus. Il nous a aimés le premier. Il est allé jusqu'à donner son Fils, Jésus Christ, pour nous sauver. Et Jésus a accepté de prendre sur lui le châtiment que méritaient notre orgueil, nos doutes, nos désobéissances, nos offenses… tout ce dont notre cœur rebelle est rempli. Maintenant, sur la base du sacrifice de son Fils à la croix, Dieu offre à chacun sa grâce et son pardon. Aujourd'hui saisissons sa grâce… Ne nous cachons plus!

Navigating Rough Waters

God guides us through the rapids of change.

I was enjoying the start of my first whitewater rafting experience—until I heard the roar of the rapids up ahead. My emotions were flooded with feelings of uncertainty, fear, and insecurity at the same time. Riding through the whitewater was a first-rate, white-knuckle experience! And then, suddenly, it was over. The guide in the back of the raft had navigated us through. I was safe—at least until the next set of rapids.

Transitions in our lives can be like whitewater experiences. The inevitable leaps from one season of life to the next—college to career, changing jobs, living with parents to living alone or with a spouse, career to retirement, youth to old age—are all marked by uncertainty and insecurity.

God guides us through the rapids of change.

In one of the most significant transitions recorded in Old Testament history, Solomon assumed the throne from his father David. I’m sure he was filled with uncertainty about the future. His father’s advice? “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. . . . For the Lord God, my God, is with you” (1 Chron. 28:20).

We’ll have our fair share of tough transitions in life. But with God in our raft we’re not alone. Keeping our eyes on the One who is navigating the rapids brings joy and security. He’s taken lots of others through before.
