Rester pur ?

C'est une véritable question pour les croyants, en particulier pour les plus jeunes! Par la foi nous avons reçu le pardon de Dieu pour tous nos péchés, mais il reste toujours en nous cette tendance à faire le mal, à pécher… Que faire?

L'une des réponses que donne la Bible se trouve dans les versets en tête de ce feuillet. Elle consiste à “cacher la Parole dans son cœur”. Cela signifie connaître des versets de la Bible, les avoir présents à l'esprit, afin qu'ils nous soient utiles dans nos choix journaliers. Bien plus, c'est un puissant rappel au bien quand nous risquons de faire le mal. En effet, la Parole de Dieu s'oppose à tout mal; je suis donc devant cette alternative: soit le péché me tient loin de la Parole, soit la Parole me tient loin du péché. Avez-vous découvert ce secret?

Dieu le rappelle à son serviteur Josué. Il l'encourage à méditer cette Parole, “jour et nuit” (Josué 1. 8). Il devait y mettre toute sa détermination. La lecture de la Bible conditionne donc notre santé spirituelle; si nous la négligeons, notre vie chrétienne sera triste, sans force, elle risque de s'ouvrir à l'impureté.

Il faut lire la Bible et aussi la méditer en recherchant son application dans notre vie. Exprimons au Seigneur notre souhait d'obéir à ce qu'il nous dit par sa Parole. Demandons-lui la force pour le faire. Mettons en pratique ce que nous lisons, en posant la question: Qu'est-ce que le Seigneur me révèle aujourd'hui? C'est ainsi que nous ferons des progrès: “Occupe-toi de ces choses; sois-y tout entier, afin que tes progrès soient évidents pour tous” (1 Timothée 4. 15).

The Lighthouse

Jesus came to bring us hope in the darkest of circumstances.

By its very existence, a ministry center in Rwanda called the “Lighthouse” symbolizes redemption. It sits on land where during the genocide in 1994 the country’s president owned a grand home. This new structure, however, has been erected by Christians as a beacon of light and hope. Housed there is a Bible institute to raise up a new generation of Christian leaders, along with a hotel, restaurant, and other services for the community. Out of the ashes has come new life. Those who built the Lighthouse look to Jesus as their source of hope and redemption.

When Jesus went to the synagogue in Nazareth on the Sabbath, He read from the book of Isaiah and announced that He was the Anointed One to proclaim the Lord’s favor (see Luke 4:14–21). He was the One who came to bind up the brokenhearted and offer redemption and forgiveness. In Jesus we see beauty coming from the ashes (Isa. 61:3).

We find the atrocities of the Rwandan genocide, when intertribal fighting cost more than a half-million lives, mind-boggling and harrowing, and we hardly know what to say about them. And yet we know that the Lord can redeem the atrocities—either here on earth or in heaven. He who bestows the oil of joy instead of mourning gives us hope even in the midst of the darkest of situations.

Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts hurt when we hear about the pain and suffering that some endure. Have mercy, we pray.
