Racontez-lui tout

Celui qui a planté l'oreille n'entendra-t­il pas? Celui qui a formé l'œil ne verra-t­il pas? Psaume 94. 9

Un père amène à Jésus son fils tourmenté par un mauvais esprit, et le supplie pour lui. “Depuis combien de temps cela lui arrive-t­il?” questionne Jésus. Le père donne alors tous les détails: depuis son enfance, cet esprit muet tourmente le garçon. Il a cherché plusieurs fois à le faire mourir, en le jetant dans le feu et dans l'eau. Le père conclut son récit par un appel désespéré: “Si tu peux quelque chose, viens à notre aide”.

Jésus a-t­il posé cette question pour se renseigner? Sûrement pas! Il connaît la triste histoire mieux que personne. La façon dont il s'adresse à l'esprit mauvais le prouve: le père a parlé d'un esprit muet, mais Jésus commande à l'esprit “muet et sourd” de laisser l'enfant. Il sait tout, il est le Dieu puissant auquel un esprit, même sourd, est contraint d'obéir!

Mais par sa question, Jésus amène ce père à tout lui dire: les drames du passé, son angoisse pour la vie de son enfant, son désarroi, son désespoir, et enfin, son incrédulité… Il raconte toute sa détresse, pour exprimer enfin ce déchirant appel au secours. Jésus le questionne, puis il l'écoute jusqu'au bout. Et enfin, il apporte le remède et délivre l'enfant.

Parents, ce récit nous encourage à tout raconter à Jésus. Parlons-lui en détail des soucis que nous causent nos enfants. Nous ne lui apprendrons rien. Mais il nous invite avec bonté à lui faire part de tous les détails, lui qui sait pourtant mieux que nous ce qu'il en est. Il écoute, il sympathise, il répond et il délivre!

Watch and Pray

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. Mark 14:38

Satan is powerless against the power of Christ.

From my window I can see a 1,700-meter hill called the Cerro del Borrego or “Hill of the Sheep.” In 1862, the French army invaded Mexico. While the enemy camped in the central park of Orizaba, the Mexican army established its position at the top of the hill. However, the Mexican general neglected to guard access to the top. While the Mexican troops were sleeping, the French attacked and killed 2,000 of them.

This reminds me of another hill, the Mount of Olives, and the garden at its foot where a group of disciples fell asleep. Jesus rebuked them, saying, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mark 14:38).

How easy it is to sleep or become careless in our Christian walk. Temptation strikes when we are most vulnerable. When we neglect certain areas of our spiritual lives—such as prayer and Bible study—we become drowsy and let our guard down, making us easy targets for our enemy, Satan, to strike (1 Peter 5:8).

We need to be alert to the possibilities of an attack and pray to maintain vigilance. If we remain watchful and pray—for ourselves and for others—the Spirit will enable us to resist temptation.

Lord Jesus, I know my spirit is willing, but my body is weak. Help me to watch and pray today for myself and for others.
