Amour indescriptible

Dieu est amour. 1 Jean 4. 8

“Lorsque ma femme a décidé de choisir une autre vie, je me suis retrouvé seul dans notre appartement. Après quelques semaines, ne pouvant plus payer le loyer, couvert de dettes, j'ai dû vivre dans ma voiture. Ce fut alors la dépression, le désespoir. J'ai même pensé mettre fin à mes jours. Un ami chrétien m'a conseillé de parler à Dieu pour lui demander son aide. C'est ce que j'ai fait sincèrement, pour la première fois, le soir même. J'ai prié Dieu avec confiance et j'ai alors senti comme des bras m'entourer. Rempli d'une paix indescriptible, je me suis endormi sur le volant de ma voiture! Depuis que mon cœur a été marqué par son amour, Jésus a produit un rétablissement réel et complet dans ma vie. C'est pour cela qu'aujourd'hui je désire faire partager ce message d'amour qui m'a tant bouleversé.” (Jerry)

Pour réaliser ce travail dans l'âme, Dieu nous demande seulement de nous confier entièrement en son amour. En même temps, il nous dit comment il nous a aimés, lui le Dieu saint. D'une part il nous montre à quel point nous sommes pécheurs, et d'autre part il nous révèle la preuve de son amour envers nous: “lorsque nous étions encore pécheurs, Christ est mort pour nous” (Romains 5. 8), pour ôter les péchés qui nous séparaient du Dieu saint. L'accepter avec foi nous conduit à réaliser ce que dit l'apôtre Paul: “ce que je vis maintenant dans la chair, je le vis dans la foi, la foi au Fils de Dieu, qui m'a aimé et qui s'est livré lui-même pour moi” (Galates 2. 20).

No Drifting

We must pay the most careful attention . . . so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1

To avoid drifting away from God, stay anchored to the Rock.

At the end of one school semester, my wife and I picked up our daughter from her school 100 kilometers (60 miles) away. On our way back home we detoured to a nearby beach resort for snacks. While enjoying our time there, we watched the boats at the seashore. Usually they are anchored to prevent them from drifting away, but I noticed one boat drifting unhindered among the others—slowly and steadily making its way out to sea.

As we drove home, I reflected on the timely caution given to believers in the book of Hebrews: "We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away" (Heb. 2:1). We have good reason to stay close. The author of Hebrews says that while the Mosaic law was reliable and needed to be obeyed, the message of the Son of God is far superior. Our salvation is  “so great” in Jesus that He shouldn’t be ignored (v. 3).

To avoid drifting away from God, stay anchored to the Rock.

Drifting in our relationship with God is hardly noticeable at first; it happens gradually. However, spending time talking with Him in prayer and reading His Word, confessing our wrongs to Him, and interacting with other followers of Jesus can help us stay anchored in Him. As we connect with the Lord regularly, He will be faithful to sustain us, and we can avoid drifting away.
