Raisons de vivre dans la joie

(Jésus dit à ses disciples:) Demeurez en moi, comme moi en vous… Je vous ai dit cela afin que ma joie soit en vous, et que votre joie soit complète. Jean 15. 4, 11

Dans sa vie sur la terre, Jésus a rencontré beaucoup d'opposition et de souffrances. Pourtant, quelques jours avant d'être crucifié, il a expliqué à ceux qui l'aimaient comment ils pourraient vivre avec lui, vivre dans la joie:

– Dieu le Père prendrait soin d'eux comme un cultivateur s'occupe de sa vigne. Son désir est de s'assurer de notre croissance pour que nous produisions du fruit (v. 1, 2).

– Le Seigneur allait porter une fois pour toutes à la croix leurs péchés et les nôtres pour nous rendre “nets” (v. 3).

– Les disciples de Jésus devaient prendre conscience que sans lui ils ne pouvaient “rien faire” qui plaise à Dieu. Mais en mettant leur confiance en lui, ils pourraient faire les bonnes œuvres préparées à l'avance par Dieu (v. 5).

– Ils pourraient présenter leurs demandes à Dieu et être certains d'une réponse positive pour toutes les requêtes conformes à sa pensée (v. 7).

– Ils resteraient aimés par Dieu et par le Seigneur pour toujours, et devraient chercher à être remplis de cet amour dans leur cœur pour le vivre au quotidien (v. 9).

– Ils auraient la possibilité de servir le Père (Dieu) comme le Fils (Jésus) l'avait servi, en gardant toutes les paroles qu'ils avaient entendues de sa part (v. 10).

Comme les disciples qu'il a plus tard trouvés endormis de tristesse, nous qui croyons en Jésus, nous avons peut-être aussi mal répondu à ses invitations à vivre près de lui et à nous réjouir en lui. Soyons plus attentifs à ce que Dieu nous dit. Reprenons courage et réjouissons-nous.

Resting and Waiting

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” John 4:34

If you want a field of service, look around you.

It was high noon. Jesus, foot-weary from His long journey, was resting beside Jacob’s well. His disciples had gone into the city of Sychar to buy bread. A woman came out of the city to draw water . . . and found her Messiah. The account tells us that she quickly went into the city and invited others to come hear “a man who told me everything I ever did” (John 4:29).

The disciples came back bringing bread. When they urged Jesus to eat, He said to them, “My food . . . is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work” (v. 34).

In this season of life, I can rest and wait for Him.

Now I ask you: What work had Jesus been doing? He’d been resting and waiting by the well.

I find great encouragement in this story for I am living with physical limitations. This passage tells me that I do not have to scurry about—worrying myself about doing the will of my Father and getting His work done. In this season of life, I can rest and wait for Him to bring His work to me.

Similarly, your tiny apartment, your work cubicle, your prison cell, or your hospital bed can become a “Jacob’s well,” a place to rest and to wait for your Father to bring His work to you. I wonder who He’ll bring to you today?

Lord, our circumstances can often threaten to overwhelm us. Today, help us to see You in all of life. We are learning to trust You as You do Your work.
