Samuel! Samuel!

L'Éternel vint et se tint là, et appela comme les autres fois: Samuel! Samuel! Et Samuel dit: Parle, car ton serviteur écoute. 1 Samuel 3. 10

Prends garde au service que tu as reçu dans le Seigneur, afin que tu l'accomplisses. Colossiens 4. 17

Récit: Samuel est encore jeune, et sert le prêtre israélite Éli dans le temple de l'Éternel. Une nuit, il entend quelqu'un l'appeler. Il pense que c'est Éli. Deux fois encore, il entend le même appel, mais ce n'est toujours pas Éli. Alors celui-ci comprend que c'est Dieu qui se révèle à Samuel, et il l'encourage à lui répondre. La quatrième fois, Samuel entend deux fois son nom: “Samuel! Samuel!” Immédiatement il répond: “Parle, car ton serviteur écoute”. Alors Dieu lui parle et lui confie une mission de prophète.

Application: Samuel servait déjà Dieu en servant Éli. Mais Dieu lui avait préparé un autre service, et il voulait se faire connaître à lui personnellement. Il l'a appelé par son nom afin que Samuel apprenne à l'écouter.

Chaque croyant est aussi appelé à servir le Seigneur dans ses occupations journalières, à la maison, au travail, parmi les croyants. Le Seigneur peut nous appeler aussi pour un service plus précis, plus difficile. Alors son appel se fait pressant, comme s'il nous appelait deux fois par notre nom.

Cet appel, on peut ne pas le discerner, on peut aussi refuser de l'entendre. Il faut quelquefois être aidé pour y voir clair, comme Samuel l'a été par Éli.

Soyons disponibles pour le Seigneur, n'hésitons pas à répondre: “Parle, car ton serviteur écoute”.

This Is the Day

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Welcome each day as a gift from God.

In 1940, Dr. Virginia Connally, age 27, braved opposition and criticism to become the first female physician in Abilene, Texas. A few months before her 100th birthday in 2012, the Texas Medical Association presented her with its Distinguished Service Award, Texas’ highest physician honor. Between those two landmark events, Dr. Connally has enthusiastically embraced a passion for spreading the gospel around the world through her many medical mission trips while living a life of service to God and to others—one day at a time.

Dr. Connally’s pastor, Phil Christopher, said, “Every day for her is a gift.” He recalled a letter in which she wrote, “Every tour, trip, effort, I wonder if this will be my last and ultimate? Only God knows. And this is enough.”

God made today. Let’s celebrate it!

The psalmist wrote, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps. 118:24 nkjv). So often we focus on the disappointments of yesterday or the uncertainties of tomorrow and miss God’s matchless gift to us: Today!

Dr. Connally said of her journey with Christ, “As you live a life of faith, you’re not looking for the results. I was just doing the things that God planted in my life and heart.”

God made today. Let’s celebrate it and make the most of every opportunity to serve others in His name.

Lord, thank You for today. May I embrace it as Your gift, celebrate Your faithfulness, and live this day fully for You.
