Compté parmi les transgresseurs

En entrant dans le monde, [Jésus] dit:… Voici, je viens… pour faire, ô Dieu, ta volonté. Hébreux 10. 5-7

Il aura été compté parmi les transgresseurs, et… il a porté le péché de plusieurs, et… il a intercédé pour les transgresseurs. Ésaïe 53. 12

Lorsqu'on a crucifié Jésus entre deux malfaiteurs, une prophétie s'est accomplie: “Il aura été compté parmi les transgresseurs”. Ces malfaiteurs étaient des transgresseurs, ils avaient enfreint les commandements divins. On a donné à Jésus une place parmi eux, on lui a même donné la place centrale, comme s'il était le plus coupable!

Jésus, un transgresseur des commandements de Dieu? En vérité, il n'y a jamais eu sur terre un homme obéissant à Dieu comme lui. “Comme le Père m'a commandé, ainsi je fais” (Jean 14. 31). Il était venu dans le monde dans le but exprès de faire sa volonté. Dieu était tout pour lui, la volonté divine dictait toute sa conduite. Toutes ses pensées, tous ses actes exprimaient son obéissance, son dévouement et son amour pour son Dieu. Mais les hommes n'ont pas hésité à le compter parmi ceux qui pratiquaient le mal, ou qui faisaient peu de cas de Dieu et de sa volonté…

Pour le cœur sensible de cet homme parfait, quelle souffrance, quelle humiliation, quelle profonde injustice! Pourquoi Jésus a-t­il accepté cette place? Pourquoi Dieu a-t­il laissé faire? N'avait-il pas dit: “Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai trouvé mon plaisir” (Matthieu 17. 5)?

Pourquoi? Parce qu'il y avait, sur terre, des hommes comme vous et moi; des gens qui ne se préoccupaient guère de la volonté de Dieu, des transgresseurs, des désobéissants… Et Jésus prenait volontairement leur place, pour supporter le jugement que méritait leur méchanceté, afin qu'ils soient sauvés pour l'éternité.

There’s joy in the journey as we walk alongside each other.

Watching my young grandson and his friends play T-Ball is entertaining. In this version of baseball, young players often run to the wrong base or don’t know what to do with the ball if they happen to catch it.  If we were watching a professional baseball game, these mistakes would not be so funny.

It’s all a matter of maturity.

We can encourage each other on the road to maturity in Jesus.

It’s okay for young athletes to struggle—not knowing what to do or not getting everything exactly right. They are trying and learning. So we coach them and patiently guide them toward maturity. Then we celebrate their success as later they play with skill as a team.

Something similar happens in the life of those who follow Jesus. Paul pointed out that the church needs people who will “be patient, bearing with one another in love” (Eph. 4:2). And we need a variety of “coaches” (pastors, teachers, spiritual mentors) to help us all move toward “unity in the faith” as we strive to “become mature” (v. 13).

The goal as we listen to preaching and teaching and enjoy life together in the church is to grow up to maturity in Christ (v. 15). Each of us is on this journey, and we can encourage each other on the road to maturity in Jesus.

Lord, help me to strive for maturity. Thank You for equipping the church with men and women who can help me grow in my faith. Show me who I can encourage today.
