Comprendre les circonstances de la vie (1)

Notre lutte… est… contre les puissances spirituelles de méchanceté qui sont dans les lieux célestes. Éphésiens 6. 12

Patrick est en Afrique, il se rend dans un village isolé pour annoncer l'évangile. C'est la saison des pluies et la route est très mauvaise. Peu après son départ, un pneu de sa voiture crève brusquement. Faut-il renoncer et faire demi-tour? Non, Patrick a la conviction qu'il doit continuer. Il change son pneu sous une pluie battante et poursuit sa route. Il arrive trempé, mais il arrive!

Les habitants du village, touchés par sa ténacité, se disent: “Ce qu'il vient nous dire doit être très important”. Ils sont donc d'autant plus nombreux et attentifs à écouter le message dont Patrick est porteur, et beaucoup sont amenés à connaître Jésus Christ pour leur Sauveur.

Pourquoi Patrick n'a-t-il pas fait demi-tour? Parce qu'il sait que Dieu aime ces villageois et désire les sauver. Il n'est même pas surpris par cet incident désagréable, sachant que Satan cherche par tous les moyens à s'opposer à l'évangile. Si Patrick avait renoncé, Satan aurait remporté la victoire. Il ne s'est donc pas laissé troubler ni décourager. Dieu a permis cet événement fâcheux, il en fera ressortir du bien. Et c'est ce qui se produit!

Chrétiens, nous rencontrons tous des obstacles sur notre route. Dieu veut parfois nous arrêter, et il ne s'agit pas de s'obstiner si nous sommes sur un mauvais chemin. Mais ne nous laissons pas non plus troubler dès que surgit une difficulté. Si nous savons que Dieu nous approuve, persévérons paisiblement et faisons-lui confiance. Il ne manquera pas de transformer les difficultés en circonstances positives, et pour sa gloire.

Calming The Storm

He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Mark 4:39

In the storms of life, we can see the character of our God.

While Hurricane Katrina headed toward the coast of Mississippi, a retired pastor and his wife left their home and went to a shelter. Their daughter pleaded with them to go to Atlanta where she could take care of them, but the couple couldn’t get any money to make the trip because the banks were closed. After the storm had passed, they returned to their home to get a few belongings, and were able to salvage only a few family photos floating in the water. Then, when the man was taking his father’s photo out of its frame so it could dry, $366 fell out—precisely the amount needed for two plane tickets to Atlanta. They learned they could trust Jesus for what they needed.

For the disciples, trusting Jesus in a storm was the curriculum for the day in the dramatic narrative of Mark 4:35-41. Jesus had instructed His disciples to cross to the other side of the Sea of Galilee and then He went to sleep in the boat. When a quick and violent storm blew in, the disciples dripped as much with fear and anxiety as water from the waves. They woke Jesus, saying, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” (v.38 niv). Jesus stood up and with three words, “Peace, be still!” He muzzled the storm.

We all experience storms—persecutions, financial troubles, illnesses, disappointments, loneliness—and Jesus does not always prevent them. But He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5). He will keep us calm in the storm.
