Recevoir le Seigneur comme Zachée

Il y avait là un homme appelé Zachée… il cherchait à voir Jésus, qui il était; mais il ne le pouvait pas, à cause de la foule, car il était de petite taille. Il courut en avant, monta sur un sycomore pour voir Jésus. Luc 19. 1-4.

Zachée désirait tant voir Jésus! Mais comment faire quand on est petit au milieu d'une foule? Il monte sur un arbre, sans se soucier de ce que pensent les autres.

Lorsque Jésus s'avance, le souhait de Zachée est comblé: il peut voir le Sauveur! Mieux encore, Jésus s'intéresse à lui et l'interpelle: “Zachée, descends vite, car il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison”.

Toi qui lis ce texte, sais-tu que Jésus est près de toi? Tu as entendu parler de lui, tu sais que certains en disent du bien, alors que d'autres le décrient… Mais, comme Zachée, approche-toi, fais le nécessaire pour le voir, sans te préoccuper des autres. Procure-toi une Bible ou un Nouveau Testament et lis les évangiles. Tu peux aussi aller à une réunion chrétienne, écouter le message d'une radio évangélique, ou télécharger gratuitement le texte de la Bible sur ton portable!

De son côté, Jésus sait ce qu'il y a dans ton cœur. Il connaît tes désirs, tes besoins. Veux-tu venir à lui? Veux-tu être pardonné, purifié de toutes tes fautes?

À toi aussi, Jésus dit: “Il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison”. Ne méprise pas cette demande instante du Sauveur qui veut habiter dans ton cœur. À l'instant même, là où tu es, il t'appelle. Il veut que tu te dépêches: “Descends vite!”. Ne renvoie pas à plus tard. Ne repousse pas à demain. Ne dis pas: J'y réfléchirai. Non, le Seigneur t'aime et te dit: “Aujourd'hui!” Fais comme Zachée: “Vite, il descendit et le reçut avec joie”.

The difference Christ makes in your life is a story worth telling.

In the years following the American Civil War (1861–1865), Union Major General Lew Wallace served as a governor of the New Mexico territories; New Mexico not yet having been admitted as a state. His work there put him in contact with many of the characters that make up the Wild West’s near-mythic history, including Billy the Kid and Sheriff Pat Garrett. It was here that Wallace wrote what has been called by some “the most influential Christian book” of the 19th century, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

Wallace witnessed the worst impact of sin on humanity as he saw the violence of the Civil War and the Wild West. In life and in his best-selling book, Wallace understood that only the story of Jesus Christ has the power of redemption and reconciliation.

For the follower of Christ, the climax of our lives was the moment God “delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Col. 1:13-14). Now we have the privilege of being storytellers of God’s wonderful redemption.

Lord, please take control of my words today.

Fill me with Your words of love and grace.

Use them to turn some heart toward You.

I can do nothing without You.
