Que pensez-vous de Jésus Christ ?

(Jésus dit à ses disciples:) Qui dit-on que je suis, moi?… Et vous, qui dites-vous que je suis? Matthieu 16. 13, 16

Le Fils de Dieu… m'a aimé et… s'est livré lui-même pour moi. Galates 2. 20

La vie de Jésus Christ sur la terre est décrite dans la Bible par plusieurs de ses contemporains, sous l'inspiration de l'Esprit de Dieu. Nous apprenons qu'il a sillonné durant trois ans et demi le pays d'Israël. Retenons quelques déclarations faites à son sujet, qui nous interpellent.

Les disciples déclarent avoir entendu la voix de Dieu qui disait de Jésus: “Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai trouvé mon plaisir” (Matthieu 17. 5).

Jean-Baptiste affirme à son sujet: “Voilà l'Agneau de Dieu qui ôte le péché du monde!” (Jean 1. 29).

Et ceux qui suivaient Jésus, qu'ont-ils dit de lui?

Pierre: “Tu es le Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant” (Matthieu 16. 16).

Jean: Il est “le témoin fidèle, le premier-né des morts, et le prince des rois de la terre” (Apocalypse 1. 5).

Thomas, celui que l'on qualifie pourtant d'incrédule: “Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu!” (Jean 20. 28).

Écoutons maintenant ceux qui ont fait mourir Jésus.

Pilate, qui avait entendu toutes les accusations portées contre lui et qui l'a livré pour le crucifier: “Je ne trouve aucun crime en cet homme” (Luc 23. 4).

Judas, qui a vécu près du Christ et qui l'a vendu pour un peu d'argent: “J'ai péché en livrant le sang innocent” (Matthieu 27. 4).

Un de ceux qui étaient crucifiés en même temps que Jésus: “Celui-ci n'a rien fait qui ne doive pas se faire” (Luc 23. 41).

Enfin, les soldats romains qui ont crucifié Jésus: “Véritablement celui-ci était Fils de Dieu” (Matthieu 27. 54).

The Beautiful Bride

The marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. Revelation 19:7

Since Christ loves His bride, the church, so should we.

I have officiated at a lot of weddings. Often planned according to the dreams of the bride, each of the weddings has been unique. But one thing is the same: adorned in their wedding dresses with hair beautifully done and faces aglow, brides steal the show.

I find it intriguing that God describes us as His bride. Speaking of the church, He says, “The marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready” (Rev. 19:7 esv).

This is a great thought for those of us who have become discouraged about the condition of the church. I grew up as a pastor’s kid, pastored three churches, and have preached in churches all over the world. I’ve counseled both pastors and parishioners about deep and troubling problems in the church. And though the church often seems unlovable, my love for the church has not changed.

But my reason for loving the church has changed. I now love it most of all for whose it is. The church belongs to Christ; it is the bride of Christ. Since the church is precious to Him, it is precious to me as well. His love for His bride, as flawed as we may be, is nothing less than extraordinary!

Lord, we look forward to the day when we will be

robed in the fine linens of purity and join You at the

marriage supper of the Lamb. Until then, remind us

to love Your bride and to live beautifully for You.
