Ainsi dit celui qui est haut élevé et exalté, qui habite l'éternité, et duquel le nom est le Saint: J'habite le lieu haut élevé et saint, et avec celui qui est abattu et d'un esprit contrit, pour revivifier l'esprit de ceux qui sont contrits, et pour revivifier le cœur de ceux qui sont abattus. Ésaïe 57. 15
De Dieu seul on peut dire qu'il est “haut élevé et exalté”. Sa grandeur dépasse l'infini des cieux.
Dieu “habite l'éternité”: parole insondable pour des êtres humains de passage sur la terre, comme emportés par le temps. Pour le Seigneur, quelle dignité magnifique que d'habiter l'éternité!
Son nom est “le Saint”: dans la pureté parfaite, il est étranger à tout mal et au-dessus de tout, il est le Dieu bienheureux (1 Timothée 1. 11).
En quel lieu habite un tel Dieu? Il habite un “lieu haut élevé et saint”, élevé au-dessus des conceptions humaines, et saint, séparé de tout mal.
Quel impact ont ces déclarations sur nous qui ne sommes pas dignes en nous-mêmes d'entrer dans sa présence! Et pourtant, Dieu ne s'arrête pas là. Chose étonnante, il parle d'habiter “avec celui qui est abattu et d'un esprit contrit”. Oui, tel est notre Dieu: il fait dès maintenant sa demeure dans le croyant humble, repentant et confiant. Mais bientôt le chrétien aura le privilège d'être pour toujours avec lui dans la maison du Père (Jean 14. 2; 1 Thessaloniciens 4. 17).
Celui qui a l'esprit humilié sait qu'il est indigne de la gloire infinie du Seigneur, mais quelle joie lorsqu'il se tient dans sa présence! Oui, Dieu habite réellement avec nous, croyants, pour “revivifier l'esprit de ceux qui sont contrits, et pour revivifier le cœur de ceux qui sont abattus”. Merveilleuse grâce!

Kangaroos And Emus
Forgetting those things which are behind . . . I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:13-14
I will go anywhere—provided it is forward.
Two of Australia’s indigenous creatures, kangaroos and emus, have something in common—they seldom move backward. Kangaroos, because of the shape of their body and the length of their strong tail, can bounce along with forward movement, but they cannot shift easily into reverse. Emus can run fast on their strong legs, but the joints in their knees seem to make backward movement difficult. Both animals appear on Australia’s coat of arms as a symbol that the nation is to be ever moving forward and making progress.
The apostle Paul called for a similar approach to the life of faith in his letter to the Philippians: “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (3:13-14).
While it is wise to learn from the past, we shouldn’t live in the past. We cannot redo or undo the past, but by God’s grace we can press forward and serve God faithfully today and in the future. The life of faith is a journey forward as we become like Christ.
