Qui est Jésus ?

Jésus leur parla encore: Moi, je suis la lumière du monde; celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans les ténèbres, mais il aura la lumière de la vie. Jean 8. 12

C'est une question essentielle pour chacun de nous: Jésus est-il seulement un homme ou est-il bien plus qu'un homme? Lorsqu'il était sur la terre, la question se posait déjà. Était-il le Messie promis, celui qu'avaient annoncé les prophètes?

Un jour, des hommes religieux ont eu une longue discussion avec lui. Tout a commencé parce que Jésus a déclaré qu'il était “la lumière du monde”. Après beaucoup de détours, ils en sont arrivés à cette question: “Toi, qui es-tu?” (Jean 8. 25). Alors Jésus leur déclare qu'il existait déjà avant même qu'Abraham soit né! Pourquoi cela? Parce qu'il est Dieu le Fils éternellement. Avant de venir sur la terre, il était auprès de Dieu (Jean 1. 1-3). Il peut dire: “Je suis”, comme Dieu avait dit à Moïse: “Je suis celui qui suis” (Exode 3. 14).

Jésus existait avant de venir sur la terre. Il a partagé ensuite notre vie quand il était parmi les hommes. Il a été crucifié, il est mort, mais maintenant il est ressuscité. Élevé au ciel, homme et Dieu tout à la fois, c'est du ciel qu'il interpelle celui qui deviendra l'apôtre Paul, et lui dit: “Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes” (Actes 9. 6).

Le premier message de l'évangile, c'est la proclamation de l'identité de Jésus Christ aux hommes. Jésus, Dieu le Fils, est venu de Dieu, il est mort pour porter nos péchés, et il est maintenant vivant, éternellement.

L'évangile a été écrit “afin que vous croyiez que Jésus est le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, et qu'en croyant vous ayez la vie par son nom” (Jean 20. 31).

Quest For Stolen Treasure

Follow your Leader into the lives of those around you.

In J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the dwarfs gathered to go up against Smaug, the fierce dragon, to retrieve their stolen treasure. In spite of the dangerously frightening quest, Balin, the dwarfs’ second-in-command, expressed confidence in Thorin: “There is one I could follow. There is one I could call King.” His commitment to the mission, as dangerous as it was, was empowered by his confidence in his leader.

At the beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry, He gathered a group around Him that would join Him in the kingdom task of rescuing the treasure of lost souls from our enemy, Satan. When He called them, He said, “Follow Me” (Matt. 4:19). For them, following Jesus would mean a radical transition from catching fish to the enterprise of being fishers of men and women who were lost in the grip of sin. But the task would not always be easy; Jesus referred to the quest as taking up our cross to follow Him (see Matt. 16:24; Mark 8:34; Luke 9:23).

How do we stay engaged in the battle to reclaim Christ’s lost treasures when it seems intimidating or awkward? By keeping our eye on our Leader. He indeed is worthy—One we can follow, the One we call King!

Lord, in the face of intimidation and fear when

seeking to engage others with the gospel, remind

me that they are Your lost treasures. I count it

a privilege to follow You into others’ lives.
